Romanian Keyboard Question

Salut, everyone!

I am trying to familiarize myself with the Romanian QWERTY keyboard and I am running into a bit of a snag. How does one type Romanian-style quotation marks? If it helps, my OS is Windows 10 and I am using a keyboard that was originally meant for American English (I installed the Romanian keyboard in the Windows 10 language settings - typing ș, ă, etc. is no issue).

At the same time, valid for all languages - windows 7 to 10, you have an option in your control panel - accessible when you raise the start menu and then start typing "on screen keyboard" - activate it and you will see the exact layout of the keyboard for any language you change to

Good luck

And pin the On-screen Keyboard to your taskbar to have it at hand.

I'm a native speaker. I only learned where the diacritics are, so for other marks (question, exclamation, quotation) I just change back to the english keyboard using the keyboard shortcut (usually shift + alt, can also be changed). :)

well they are mostly the same as US English (but for some you have to use Alt Gr when it's on the keys with diacritics)

like for example the key right of L is ;: in US layout and Șș in Romanian layout but if you want ;: on RO layout you just press Alt Gr+Ș

Assuming your layout (with the RO keyboard) is [ ] ; ' # for ă î ș ț â then you just need to use the button to the left of the number 1 (above the tab key).

Press for „ and then shift+press for ”

Hope this helps! It sounds like you did the same thing as me; I installed the RO keyboard layout in windows and use a shift+alt shortcut to switch between keyboards so I can flick between ENG and RO easily :-)

For some reason I neglected to check if this had already been answered or not. Apologies! More coffee clearly required...

Don't worry. I really think that an easy-to-understand page for anyone with clear instructions for keyboard settings would be needed. A very good speaker of foreign languages friend, using Android for the first time has dropped out of using the app because it did not work by keyboard troubles. I think this is a loss for us, the beginners in languages but advanced in tech. We can make this page together if you have some time to help me.
