How did you become fluent in Romanian?
I'm looking for some motivational stories from people here on Duolingo who became fluent in Romanian. How did you do it? How long did it take you?
Unfortunately, I don't think that I'll be able to live there any time soon, but I still think that it's possible to nevertheless become very proficient, especially given the abundance of resources on the internet.
At this point, I know French on a conversational level (B2/C1), but still find Romanian very challenging, especially because of the cases/declensions. I'm not going to give up though--I'm halfway through the tree and fully intend to complete it. I would imagine, as with any other language, that this is not enough to become fluent, and that the truly dedicated found other resources to continue their learning...
I await your stories!
Update: I've complete the Romanian tree.
I don't take Romanian, but I can give you some general advice, 1. Don't give up. If you really want to learn it, you will find a way. 2. say things out loud 3. Remind yourself of the reason you are learning it.
Hi! Try to complete each lesson up to level 5 (golden status), before proceeding to the next lesson. Also, try to listen to Romanian songs, even if you don't understand too much. It can help you to "feel" the language closer to you and give you a real sensation about what means this language too you. :)
For me it helps, that I write down the words and sentences. That way I can remember them better and it is easier to see, how my language skills are coming better. I try to remember them later too. And I try to say things out loud too. More the better. From papers I find them more easily if I find it hard to remember. This is challenging for me, because there´s no app with my language (finnish) to understand all correctly.
For beginning, you can listen to Google Translate for English->Romanian translated sentences (it is not perfect, but it works).
Search for youtube videos in Romanian and watch them with subtitling in Romanian (CC button). You can start with cartoons, they are simpler.
Someone recently recommended me the HelloTalk app, which excited me. You can find there native speakers to talk with, but do that only after you know the Romanian language at an acceptable level. Duolingo can help you with that.
Update: try to speak your Romanian language into the microphone of Google Drive. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the application converts the voice into the text with great accuracy. If Google understand you and you can see on your monitor the same text you are reading, it means you have a good pronunciation.
I actually have several Romanian friends; I met most of them on italki, and we skype and message a lot. They're the best!
