Easy books or stories to read

Has anyone come across websites our other sources that host short stories or children stories written in Hungarian? I am currently using Duolingo, Drops, and Pimsleur to learn the language.. just looking for other alternatives.

Thank you!

I recommend the Hungarian translation of the Winnie the Pooh stories very highly. It looks like the entirety of both books is readable here:

(You'll want to click on Első Fejezet, Chapter 1, in the table of contents in the sidebar to begin reading.)

It's not necessarily the simplest thing to read but it is wonderfully rewarding. It's more of a "full Hungarianization" than a translation.

That's.... everything but easy. It's really a wonderful translation, and very rewarding to read it, but... it's NOT for beginner learners. At all.

It's hard to find something... stories for children would come to one's mind at first, but they are actually incredibly hard for non-natives, since instead of "everyday Hungarian" they are all written in "child-literature (almost rural) Hungarian", which is something childrens love, but beginner learners will hate with a passion. "Normal" literature is out as well, since we Hungarians got a VERY good "literature langauge&vocab", but again, it's only good for us, not for learners, especially beginner learners.

I looked up some easy stories, but they were all "easy for native children" not "easy for learners" and in Hungarian that is a HUGE difference... I will keep on thinking....

As a learner myself, I loved it. I learned lots and there was enough depth that I could come back later and learn still more. You're right, it's not simple.

It also depends on the language level of OP. If he really is a beginner looking for simple stories than Winnie the Pooh is definetly not something I can recommend :)

I've been using Drops recently but I've not really been a fan of it. And sorry but I don't know where I can find some short stories. Someone here might be able to help though I'm sure

There are many sources, for example, I suggest simple tales from Google Play:

or other books in Hungarian.

You can read news here:

Or you can watch TV programs, live and recorded ones on https://www.mediaklikk.hu/.

By the way the most important thing is you have to be interested in what you read.

In the Google Play Store you can find 2 good reading apps, one is just called "Hungarian Newspapers" and the other is called "Esti Mesek" which is fables and bedtime stories. For listening, I also recommend 2 apps, "Radio Hungary," and for TV "RTL Most."
