The letter ף
Hi everyone, can you help me? I'm a bit confused. What is this letter: ף?
It's a pey (fey) sofit, the final form of פ (pey), which represents p/f in English. Certain letters in Hebrew take on different forms when they are used to end a word, a phenomenon you can read more about here.
However, native Hebrew words cannot end in a p sound, so the pey sofit always represents the fey (f) sound. Loanwords ending in the letter p use the non-final פ.
