Can you recommend some Japanese music?
I’ve been listening to a lot of music lately, and I think listening to some in Japanese will help me learn. Know any good Japanese artists and/or songs?
Depends on the genre you are into. Some of my personal favourites are BAND-MAID, Babymetal, DOLL$BOXX But also YouTube any Anime OP/EP and you can usually find some good stuff
i like Baby metal but i did not know band maid until now ;) do you know crystal lake or crossfaith? i really like thoses bands <3
Yeah, I started my japanese studies to understand the Band-Maid interviews.
The band tricot makes excellent math rock. If you want a recommendation on a specific song, try potage.
I can recommend Polkadot Stingray. I've discovered it recently and I like it a lot now. And the lyrics are much more meaningful then they are in Babymetal songs. You can start with the song "Telecaster stripes".
If your interested vocaloid (a voice synth with many different characters) has lots of songs in japanese. But before i give you some songs what kind of music are you into and what kind of lyrics do you like?
Hatsune Miku Delusion Tax, Weekender Girl, Tell your world, My Time, The Fox's Wedding
Rin and Len Kagamine: Electric Angel, Bring it on, Whatever
Kamui Gakupo: Breathe, Zero, Joker, Servant of Evil, A Doll's Voice, Dancing Samurai, Demons, A soundless voice
Gakupo and Kaito, Magnet, Trick and Treat, Insanity
Gumi: Candy Candy, Candy Drops
I love Vocaloid OwO

yeah! one ok rock : awsoooome band!!! i did not really like "ambition" though... what do you think about "stand out fit in"?
I have some, hope you like them :)
Also there are many awesome anime openings songs which you should check (「進撃の巨人」(my favourite op song is 1 and 2),「フェアリーテイル」(3,5,6,7) or 「オーバーロード」(all!) for example).
Well I like a song called '恋愛裁判' which translates to 'Love trial'. Sorry if you don't like, just making suggestions. (also LOVE your profile pic, I love Uraraka)
初音ミク (Miku Hatsune) ? It's more a collective than a specific artist, but with 100k+ songs in any genre or any style you can think of, you'll surely find something that matches your tastes and your present Japanese vocabulary attention. Just check ニコニコ or Youtube for her MV, almost all of them have their lyrics written. You also start with a translator channel like https://www.youtube.com/user/ukwildcat387
You really love Citrus, don't you? No offence, it is a great show.
one ok rock!!! i love them. my favourite songs are : liar, no scared, re:make Enjoy!!
also some songs have a japanese and an english version (these help a lot ;) ) it's a rock band but if you like metal there are a lot of awsome metal bands in japan : crystal lake, crossfaith, dir and grey
I like black metal so Imperial Circus Dead Decadence, Vaguedge Dies for Dies Irae, and Unlucky Morpheus are now my favourite Japanese metal bands. (Not that there are that many of them)
Wednesday Campanella & Sakanaction for j-pop. Charisma dot com and group_inou for electronic music. Ego-Wrappin' and Ryo Fukui for jazz stuff.
;) do you have some other bands in mind to recommand (not only japanese! and not only black metal). I am on a "Bury Tomorrow" (overcasr, black flames) and "Architects" week. Last week was a "Jinjer" week (the song "i speak astronomy is awwwwsome!)
Wow, Jinjer's great! Unfortunately, I don't really listen to other bands that much. Aside from black metal I mostly listen to classical & electronic music (Aphex Twin, Datach'i, Burial etc) and movie/game OSTs.
But I love Batushka and 1914. They're both worth checking out (it's black metal again).
Thanks for telling me about these bands^^
Aphex twin ! long time no listened toooooo. i will check the others bands this weekend i have some time off. always fun to discover new bands! by the way, Jinjer's new album will be released on february the 15th!!! so sooooon! and they will come to France by the end of june! (super happy!)
For heavy metal : Galneryus , Sex Machine Guns Nu metal Dir en grey , The Gazette
Just go with your flow. It doesn't matter on the music you are forced to choose, what matters is what you like a song sings it because you like it. For ex. I'm a Mexican/American and you might call me a Japanese, who hears a variety of songs and I still enjoy it, I have 4 favorites songs in the English Area, 3 in the Mexican Bands, and 3-4 in the Japanese Animes songs.
I watch anime (if you can't already tell) so I like to listen to anime intros and outros. You find that usually the song goes beyond the short anime intro. I'm not sure that they're considered actual songs that would be played on the radio, but I only listen to video game music and anime stuff so...
Listen to MY FIRST STORY, Cider Girl, vivid undress, KANA-BOON, AKLO, Omega tribe, tricot, regretGirl, tatsuro yamashita, Anri, etc
"Snow fairy" is one of my favorites and you can find it in english too if that helps XD
To be honest, a lot of music here is mainstream japanese rock/pop music or just Anime music.
here is some music and artists that isn't mainstream but still cool!
Great rap artists:
NORIKIYO STUTS L-VOKAL
JAZZ: QUASIMODE - WALTZ GA KIKOETE
POP: MELOS - WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA SUSHMOS - STAY TUNE YONYON - MIRROR
Aozora no Rhapsody is a good song, i like to listen to REOL, blend S opening ( Don't judge me, you know you love it ) OP's to both nyaruko san seasons, even though they a kinda' short, a cruel angels thesis, that's about it, there are a lot of good anime openings if you look long enough, so surf around.
i dont judge if you hate these choices, I have heard that I have wierd tastes in music. シ -N
- melancholy of haruhi suzumiya OP (;
I noticed nobody mentioned ATOLS yet. He’s probably both my favorite Vocaloid/Hatsune Miku artist and my favorite electronic music artist. Some of his songs with singing include Macaron and EDEN (both in Japanese and very easy to learn compared to other songs). His instrumental/non-lyrical songs are also really good, interesting and sometimes humorous.
Come on, Pinocchio-P or ryo are better for Miku.
For Japanese music I can only think of songs from anime openings and endings, while my knowledge of artists and non-anime songs is pretty limited.
I mostly think of this as well, but I've encountered lots of great opening and ending themes.
Specific bands/songs? No. But you can listen to Japanese radio stations with this site (also an app) http://radio.garden
I personnaly realy like Yorushika, Eve, maybe u should try listening to some vocaloid songs or anime opening!
translating the lyrics of japanese songs can motivate you to learn new vocabularies but if you're learning japanese grammar, musica can be really confusing. it's very poetic and they usually change the order (verbs should be at the end) imo it's like learning english by reading shakespeare
I suggest a YouTube search such as this.
traditional japanese songs with lyrics
It produces hundreds of results from anime, folk songs, children's songs, classical gagaku, and much more.
Or you can substitute anything you like for "traditional".
AKB48, Babymetal, Band-Maid, Brats, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Momoiro Clover Z, Ladybaby, Yousei Teikoku, Wagakki Band etc are examples of good Japanese music.
Hikaru Utada and School Food Punishment were some of the first that I listened to. I'd also recommend Mariya Takeuchi and some Mondo Grosso if jazz and old school are more up your alley.
浜崎あゆみ (i like her old stuff) ゴールデンボンバー (they have some good visual kei music) 04 Limited Sazabys (good j rock)
Babymetal is good. I also like Steropony, LiSA, and Yui. Yoko Hikasa is pretty good too. In my opinion.
Some of my favorites are: JYOCHO, Uchu Conbini, Sotasei Riron/Etsuko Yakushimaru, Kinokoteikoku, Fujin Club, Haisuinonasa, tricot, and Sheena Ringo
Joe Inoue is my favorite! He wrote the 4th opening for Naruto Shippuden. My favorite song of his is "Closer". There's also an English version.
Mafumafu - Kyouka Suigetsu, Toosenbou, Tachiiri Kinshi, Soraru - Mercuria, Jigsaw Puzzle, Good Night Fall, 未来人A - Kimi no Myaku de Odoritakatta, Yorushika - Just a Sunny Day for You, BTS - Fake Love, I Need U (JP versions), Crystal Snow, Dear You, Amadare no Uta, Kenshi Yonezu/Hachi - Eine Kleine, Lemon, Uchiage Hanabi, Itou Kashitaro, Eve, Balloon/Suda Kiena, Reol, Aimyon, Lon, Osamuraisan, an acoustic guitarist, also has livestreams where he talks and plays music.
I recommend frederic
Some of my favorite bands (in general, not just favorite Japanese bands):
Also Keyakizaka 46 is guilty pleasure lol
