Can you recommend some Japanese music?

[deactivated user]

I’ve been listening to a lot of music lately, and I think listening to some in Japanese will help me learn. Know any good Japanese artists and/or songs?

I can recommend Polkadot Stingray. I've discovered it recently and I like it a lot now. And the lyrics are much more meaningful then they are in Babymetal songs. You can start with the song "Telecaster stripes".

初音ミク (Miku Hatsune) ? It's more a collective than a specific artist, but with 100k+ songs in any genre or any style you can think of, you'll surely find something that matches your tastes and your present Japanese vocabulary attention. Just check ニコニコ or Youtube for her MV, almost all of them have their lyrics written. You also start with a translator channel like https://www.youtube.com/user/ukwildcat387

Wednesday Campanella & Sakanaction for j-pop. Charisma dot com and group_inou for electronic music. Ego-Wrappin' and Ryo Fukui for jazz stuff.

;) do you have some other bands in mind to recommand (not only japanese! and not only black metal). I am on a "Bury Tomorrow" (overcasr, black flames) and "Architects" week. Last week was a "Jinjer" week (the song "i speak astronomy is awwwwsome!)

        January 21, 2019

        https://www.duolingo.com/doomsdaybirb

Wow, Jinjer's great! Unfortunately, I don't really listen to other bands that much. Aside from black metal I mostly listen to classical & electronic music (Aphex Twin, Datach'i, Burial etc) and movie/game OSTs.

But I love Batushka and 1914. They're both worth checking out (it's black metal again).

Thanks for telling me about these bands^^

Just go with your flow. It doesn't matter on the music you are forced to choose, what matters is what you like a song sings it because you like it. For ex. I'm a Mexican/American and you might call me a Japanese, who hears a variety of songs and I still enjoy it, I have 4 favorites songs in the English Area, 3 in the Mexican Bands, and 3-4 in the Japanese Animes songs.

I watch anime (if you can't already tell) so I like to listen to anime intros and outros. You find that usually the song goes beyond the short anime intro. I'm not sure that they're considered actual songs that would be played on the radio, but I only listen to video game music and anime stuff so...

To be honest, a lot of music here is mainstream japanese rock/pop music or just Anime music.

here is some music and artists that isn't mainstream but still cool!

        Great rap artists:

        NORIKIYO STUTS L-VOKAL

JAZZ: QUASIMODE - WALTZ GA KIKOETE

POP: MELOS - WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA SUSHMOS - STAY TUNE YONYON - MIRROR

Aozora no Rhapsody is a good song, i like to listen to REOL, blend S opening ( Don't judge me, you know you love it ) OP's to both nyaruko san seasons, even though they a kinda' short, a cruel angels thesis, that's about it, there are a lot of good anime openings if you look long enough, so surf around.

i dont judge if you hate these choices, I have heard that I have wierd tastes in music. シ -N

I noticed nobody mentioned ATOLS yet. He’s probably both my favorite Vocaloid/Hatsune Miku artist and my favorite electronic music artist. Some of his songs with singing include Macaron and EDEN (both in Japanese and very easy to learn compared to other songs). His instrumental/non-lyrical songs are also really good, interesting and sometimes humorous.

translating the lyrics of japanese songs can motivate you to learn new vocabularies but if you're learning japanese grammar, musica can be really confusing. it's very poetic and they usually change the order (verbs should be at the end) imo it's like learning english by reading shakespeare

I suggest a YouTube search such as this.

          traditional japanese songs with lyrics

          https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=traditional+japanese+songs+with+lyrics+

It produces hundreds of results from anime, folk songs, children's songs, classical gagaku, and much more.

Or you can substitute anything you like for "traditional".
