I have an unearned Crown Level. How do I get rid of it?
So I used Duolingo a few years ago and then didn't do anything with it. I recently picked it back up and have been cruising through the German tree. I'm now up to about 240 crowns. I noticed that one upcoming skill is already at Crown Level 5, but I haven't done anything with it yet. Technically, I shouldn't have even been able to access this skill yet, so I have no idea how this happened. My guess is that it has something to do when Duo moved me over from the old paradigm to the new one.
I don't want to miss/skip the material. What should I do about this? I filed a bug report with Duo a couple of weeks ago, but haven't heard anything back. At my current pace, I'll probably hit this skill in about 2 weeks.
It is a bug in many courses from the start of the 'crown method' (spring 2018).
And, as usual from spring 2017, Duolingo's staff does not solve this bug either.
- Etc etc, ......
I would just like to congratulate you on your streaks, it really takes dedication for them to get that high.
You can't reset a skill. You can still do practice sessions of that skill until you're comfortable with your knowledge of the material.
When Duo converted to crown levels, I believe some of the skills got split and re-combined to become the new skills that you're seeing now. Therefore, it could be possible that the 5 crowns from that skill are the remnants of another skill you had previously. I've also heard of skills apparently being connected (so, practicing one skill = raising another simultaneously), but I can't confirm.
I'm assuming that you don't want to reset your tree solely because of this one skill. The most I can offer to you is utilizing the "practice" feature on that skill a ton (probably more than you would do usually, since practicing a maxed skill usually encompasses everything in that skill). I'm not really sure there's any other remedy, sorry. But I hope that helps somewhat?
