New voice in Italian
The new male voice in Italian is very difficult. It is a man speaking. Especially the vowels at the end of the words are impossible to hear Is it just me? I have been practising duo for many years
Word of the day: birignao. :-D
In theatre jargon, this word indicates a type of voice used by actors in order to sound more impressive or somewhat refined (free from any inflection), yet resulting in a rather affected, artificial, unnatural pronunciation. The same type of voice is also heard in some commercials.
The type of birignao used by Duolingo's male voice affects particularly the final vowel, as Azora wrote. It is perfectly understandable by a native speaker (who can also understand it by intuition), but sounds indeed a little different from how an ordinary speaker would pronounce the vowel (the female voice is definitely clearer).
I totally agree. The woman has better diction and is easier to understand
Even .... Net and Halla ? My Italian teacher laughed out loud when I sent her a sound clip.
I agree, the male is very difficult to understand. I have to play what he says over and over and sometimes even then I can’t work out what he is saying!! The woman is much easier to understand.
Thank you for your support! I started to wonder about checking my hearing ability at the doctor’s .
I have a difficult time deciphering the male voice also. I have been listening to it for a couple weeks now and wanted to give it a chance before I complained (haha)... I don't understand why Duolingo makes changes to things that are not broken.
Most emphatically agree. The new male voice is inferior to the voice it replaced.
I fully agree with all above written comments There is nothing wrong with your hearing ability. The new male voice on Duo Italian course is 1) too fast and unclear 2)too monotonous and has a strange intonation, almost mocking the listener. I heard a lot of Italian native speakers..this voice ain't one of them..:-))is just a very robotic (and it is probably a TTS robot) and very unnatural imitation of an Italian male from the movies..:-) Female voice is very nice and clear.
I agree. I have reported a number of sentences with his voice as "audio incorrect" because it is really hard to understand him, particularly with the vowels at the end of words. It's getting frustrating and slowing my progress, but I'm glad others are noticing it too.
Is there really a place we can report things? I would like to know where!
Every instance in which you find the voice hard to understand (and the new male voice is just awful) hit "report" at the bottom of the page once the program checks your response, and report as "the audio does not sound correct." Eventually management will notice the user discontent.
I understand the report button, but it never comes an opportunity to say why og what I report
Its funny, at first the male voice was easier for me to understand than the female voice, and then the other day it was like someone turned on fast forward and I had to use the (now gigantic on mobile) slow button every time he speaks.
Now I just get the female voice which sounds all the sweeter for el chapo's departure. Perhaps he has a sore throat or is recovering from whatever he was on.
