I Made an App to Supplement Duolingo

Hi all! I'm a Chinese learner and designer that's enjoyed using Duolingo in the past. I think the app is great but also wanted a tool that focused solely on vocabulary retention, had a more direct spaced-repetition component, and had content for advanced and niche learners.

So I made my own app called Daily Chinese (

Unlike other flaschard apps, it supplies pre-created vocab lists and tracks the vocab you learn. It will be live on iOS and Android in the next couple of months. You can sign up to be notified when it's launched here:

Will it supplement your current level of vocabulary, or the entire vocabulary list?

P.S. "I am making" != "I made an app"

It will supplement the entire vocabulary list offered in Duolingo and much more. Duolingo contains around ~1,000 words. The app I'm building will have the option to learn 100,000+ words.

No, you did not :P

Or at least not yet - please notify us once you get you get something that we can install & test (you want beta testers, right?)

I miss in duolingo some "random" option in exercises. It repeats the same phrase too much in the same exercise, I have some of them pre-recorded on my keyboard! Before duolingo I also tried building a webapp, but more focused on chinese character radicals. It worked but only in a sequence, I have not figured out how to randomize the question bank(A JSON file) or save my progress. I'm not a programmer.

Well if you have a JSON file with an index as key you can generate a random integer number in the range of your JSON and get that element.

I'm interested to see what it will be like.
