I used to have access to Version 2 of the French tree on Duolingo, but a few months ago, I was transferred back to Version 1 without my knowledge. Meanwhile, my friend, who just joined Duolingo recently, is currently working on conquering her Version 3 tree. Since I have already completed both Versions 1 and 2 of the French tree, is there any way I could manually switch to Version 3?

Apparently you have the same version that I have:

It's weird. I have had duolingo for over 2 years, however I didn't touch it for maybe a year and a half. I came back about a month ago and I have a totally new tree. I've only been duolingoPLUS for maybe a week so that isn't related.

It’s not related to Plus.

It might be because of the Crowns update, and it might be because Duolingo is running a test on various French trees and has chosen you to be in a test group.

Your duome.eu page shows you as still having French Tree 2:

https://duome.eu/sebastiansss.

What platform are you using where you see French Tree 1?

Duolingo decides what tree to give people, based on forming experimental and control groups for testing. The only way to try to force a particular tree is to create new Duo accounts with new email addresses, and see if one of them randomly gets Tree 3. You might have to do this in an incognito browser window, or do I have read.

If you’re not in your French Tree, you need to switch to the French tree temporarily to see it on duome (duome shows details for your active language).

Could it be that you have two French trees, one From English and one From Spanish?

I just made a new account and first try got French Tree 12!

I was hoping for something new, after 4 years on Tree 2 completing gold before and after crowns. It'd be nice to have the main account switch to Tree 12 though.

@jrarrmy

Have you got the "normal" tree12 (which is IMHO also quite OK) or have you seeked for the different Part1-8 grouping layout (with line separators)?

If yes, how do you like the new dedicated skill checkpoints?

Some learners shared some details about the test from their Spanish tree.

Oh, don't think I've read yet about 2 versions of tree12...

I guess I have the 8 OR 9 sections with 'take a shortcut' or 'test out/checkpoints'.

There's 9 sections on mobile, with a 'Shortcut/Checkpoint' option before 'Feelings 2'. Actually seems like all? of the checkpoint places are different android vs desktop.

I love skill checkpoints, helps you advance to the harder stuff when it's a 2nd account, or you know more than it thinks you do from the sign up test.

PS. Thomas you don't happen to know why my duome.eu profile cuts off progress that's more than 8-9 days old? Most people seem to have 21 day tracking.

@sebastiansss

https://www.duome.eu/sebastiansss.

You are currently on the old / stable tree2.

Maybe you had access to the contributor tree3 or the newer staff tree8.

I was transferred back to Version 1

There is no version 1 anymore since a longer time according to French moderators.

is there any way I could manually switch to Version 3?

No sorry, you can't switch to the A/B contributor tree3 with 96 skills at this time anymore; it wasn't offered to me no matter how many times I tried to catch it. Moderators have confirmed this.

Meanwhile, my friend, who just joined Duolingo recently, is currently working on conquering her Version 3 tree

Then you are using the wrong version terms ;)

Only the new A/B staff tree8 (119 skills) + tree12 (156 skills, over 700 lessons) are offered to new users.

Since I have already completed both versions ... of the French tree, is there any way I could manually switch to version X

Not for this account as there is a migration stop.

..(...)..

Follow the instructions with the private browsing (no activity tracking) here and register - after you got the right tree (12) - a new user account:
https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/29069435$comment_id=29810695

Be aware that there are four versions of tree8+12, with Parts 1-7/1-8 grouping (line separtors for each block) and not.

I do not suggest that you get the "older" tree8 without the Parts1-7: It has IMHO the worser tree design compared to the other three versions (too less checkpoints, too many skills after the last checkpoint, no last checkpoint at the bottom, etc.).

Try to catch one of the two tree12 courses on your new account / private browsing window.

I guess it does not really matter which one: The Part1-8 tree A/B version has additional "Checkpoint" skills which you will be tested on before you can pass the yellow checkpoint (test-out) button.
Both tree designs are acceptable.

French trees explained: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/29069435/French-Trees-Explained

Yes, the contributor tree3 was an update several months ago: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/26726755/The-new-French-tree-is-here-under-A-B-test

And now staff has created two new trees with new A1 / A2 CEFR content.

Unfortunately, they have not only simply added some CEFR skills to enforce the practicing, but they also have (completely) restructured the tree8+12 (not a 1:1 clone of tree3).

I really like that the tree3 contains (more) 26+ dedicated grammar skills like my English->Portuguese tree.

I don't want to leave my current tree, as I am 75% through it, but would love to run the new one as well...would test out and see what new things are offered. Any way to do this?

Yes, there is.

See above: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/30450125$comment_id=30453342

Follow the instructions in the linked comment about the private browsing window to catch the "right" tree12 (either you may prefer the newest Part1-8 A/B experiment which included dedicated "Checkpoint skills" or you want to go with the "normal" tree12.
