Reasons for learning Japanese

I started learning Japanese for two sole reasons.

First reason being that I adore the Shiba Inu breed. Those adorable little dogs makes me happy whenever I see them.

My second reason is that on YouTube I get a lot of recommended videos in Japanese. I suspect it is because I watch a lot of videos about Shiba Inus which also happen to be in Japanese.

What is your reason for learning this language?

I'm learning Japanese in order to watch more comedy videos. I had my first taste of Japanese comedy with the top comedy duo Downtown. Many months later, I stumbled upon Terrace House and their hilarious cast. Watching the way Yamasato Ryota, Tokui Yoshimi and Babazono Azusa interacted made me laugh my *ss off ! I seriously wanted to hear more of their funny comments and insights so I've now begun learning Japanese. I've long since been appreciated many facets of the Japanese culture : mangas, work ethic/dedication, craftsmanship, politeness, health awareness, food, etc. But those were never enough to motivate me to learn the language. When I watched those comedy moments by Downtown and the panel of Terrace House, it really ignited something inside me. It gave me something amazing to look forward to when I would have finally learned Japanese.

Something similar pushed me to pick up Mandarin many months ago. Still, I'm much more optimistic towards learning Japanese than learning Chinese : 1) There is a lot more content I appreciate that's available to me (e.g. comedy, dramas, movies) 2) I can actually pick up new vocabulary when watching Japanese content. It should also be possible for Mandarin but I'm still far from that level.

Anyway, I'm learning Japanese so that I can have access to a much bigger part of its culture, especially Japanese comedy.

I can relate to what you wrote. I really like this channel called "inosemarine" on YouTube. It's a guy who does skits with his Shiba Inu however he speaks mainly in Japanese (I saw him speak Russian a couple of times which I happen to occasionally speak myself).

I'm learning Japanese mainly because I want to be able to read manga in its original language and watch anime without subtitles, though I'm also interested in traveling to Japan someday.

I'm learning Japanese because I love Japan's traditional arts and I also resonate with many aspects of its philosophy. Being a bookworm, I want to read books on these topics in Japanese. I'm more interested in this than in actually speaking the language although the latter can't hurt.

I've been to Japan a few times and I love the culture, food, and people. I also got a chance to study at a university in Kyoto for a short time and I really loved my experience.

I'm studying Japanese because want to pursue my graduate studies in Tokyo and hopefully get a job there. I also want to go back to meet with my friends and former classmates.

I began learning it as part of my capstone project for community college. Now, I'm doing it because I like Japanese culture and the history.

My original reason for starting my Japanese studies was that I used to listen to Japanese songs and liked the sound of it.
