Why not use the preposition "va" here? Oktiot could be a locative instead of a dative, and then without "va" this would translate as "are you going in the city now".


Plain locative indicates destination, va+locative the sense of "towards" with it not necessarily the destination and va+dative the sense of "into". Hope this helps! :)
