Pronouns: com nós (vs) conosco

oi gente, como va?

When learning Portuguese, I struggled between these two pronouns, that essentially mean the same: conosco and com nós (with us)

The Rule

Whenever the pronoun is followed by some kind of specification about who "WE" are, then the correct pronoun is com nós. However, if there are no details of who "WE" are, the correct pronoun to use is conosco.

Examples:
A professora vai almoçar conosco. (The teacher will have lunch with us)
A professora vai almoçar com nós os alunos. (The teacher will have lunch with us the students)

In the second case, we give details about who "WE" are, and hence we should use com nós.

Hope this helps!

Allow me to correct your beggining.

When we talk to "YOU plural" (vocês, gente, pessoal) we must conjugate the verb to third plural person, so we have "Vão". "Vá" is the imperative form for "you singular" (the famous and not actually in use "tu"). Although we brazilians don't care about the verb form, we'll notice the plural mistakes.

Here I'll show some phrases I can remember now, I just want do help you. :) I'll put the phrase with the pronouns to show you why it is this way:

Oi, gente! Como vão? (Como vão vocês?) Oi, pessoal! Como estão? (Como estão vocês)

Notice that we don't use the "gente, pessoal" because these are vocatives.

For writing, I think the best way is the standardized, although we have these:

E aí, galera! Como tão? E aí, gente! Tudo bem?

And finally, the most common: Oi, tudo bem?

Alright, I know it's not the best explanation, but I've tried my best. :)

So it should had been "oi gente, como vāo" , right?

Thanks!

Is "Como va tudo" ever used in colloquial Portuguese? Maybe I was tempted to use that construction from Spanish!

Va is only for imperative form.

Como vão todos? That's correct. I don't know Spanish. :-P Como vai você? Is also correct.

Como vou eu? (I can question me if I want. :-P) Como vais tu? (tu is obsolete pronoun, but I like it) Como vai ele/ você? Como vamos nós? Como ides vós? (vós is more obsolete thn tu, i don't use in spoken only in written language. Como vão eles/ vocês/ todos?
