Taking your Indonesian Further than Duolingo

Selamat Pagi, Duo rats!

I just recently got past the second checkpoint of the Indonesian tree, and I’m already thinking about what to do once I’m finally done with Duolingo. So, long story short, I’ve managed to round up a couple of extra resources I think will REALLY come in handy for anyone who wants to brush up on their indo skills a bit more.

Check them out:

  • Supplementary course

1) Indonesian Online

  • Reading & Listening

2) LingQ's short stories for beginners 3) IndonesianPod101

  • Vocabulary

4) Indonesian FEL

  • Community

5) Reddit 6) HiNative

  • Speaking

7) HelloTalk

Do you guys know any other apps or websites?

Have fun! :)

Those are great, although I have nothing else to recommend beside immersion, of course

There are quite a lot of Indonesian channels at Radio Garden, you might want to check it out.

Does anyone have a good online Indonesian-English dictionary?

All the ones I have seen are just big word lists with very little lexicography going on.

I have found sederet.com and kamus.net but these are examples of BAD dictionaries.

I recommend http://sealang.net/indonesia/dictionary.htm. It is an internet version of the excellent Stevens/Schmidgall-Tellings dictionary. It takes a little experimenting, but you can also get it to give you examples from a large corpus. There are other dictionaries at that site - Vietnamese, Balinese, Khmer, Thai, etc.; I believe it is no longer officially maintained, unfortunately (its funding was cancelled), but it still works...

Youtube can be a great resource. Search for "Lagu Indonesia Terbaru Terpopuler" or similar, and you will find plenty nice songs in Bahasa Indonesia.

Hmm im not too sure abt using reddit. When I went to Jakarta recently I found that reddit is blocked or at least unaccesible in some way (Maybe its the phone provider?) Im not sure, but that explains why theres hardly any subs there (Theyre very patriotic ppl).
