Quick question about nouns and contractions.
Hi, I got the sentence: "Vejo um copo com água nele" in the lesson Preposition Contractions 1. The sentence has two nouns "um copo" and "água", respectively and "nele" as a contraction refers back to "um copo" doesn't it? :) Thanks in advance.
That's right. "Nele = "em ele" and can be translated in several ways including "in/on it/him" giving "I see [a glass] with water in it" as the most obvious interpretation.
It seems some people understand it to mean "I see [a glass of water] in it" where "it" is some previously mentioned container. That's not the first thing that came to my mind, but see Paulenrique's comments in the sentence discussion itself:
