Why is it not mikasi?

In English, we refer to the object as a pair of scissors, and in Swahili, mkasi. Mikasi would be two or more pairs of scissors. Since the English is ambiguous, I think both the singular and the plural should be accepted in Swahili, but the singular was probably meant.
