Hello.

I am very interested in learning Mandarin, or other languages that do not use the Latin alphabet.

So, my question.

Is Duolingo a useful resource for learning these languages? How useful is it for learning the characters?

Thank you.

I use Duolingo to improve my Chinese but it doesn't have traditional, it only has simplified Chinese, which some people only read traditional Chinese. I would suggest you to not use Duolingo if you don't read simplified Chinese. But if you still want to use Duolingo, I won't stop you from using because I personally read traditional Chinese better than simplified Chinese, but I still use Duolingo because I read a little bit of simplified Chinese.

Can't speak for other languages, but when it comes to Mandarin - Duolingo leaves a lot to be desired. Since you're a begginer I'd suggest HelloChinese app.

One more thing - Mandarin does not use an alphabet, but characters - each of them has separate meaning and pronounciation*

I wouldn't suggest Duolingo for Mandarin, instead I would say try HelloChinese and/or LingoDeer

Same here! I honestly think Duolingo's course is a little inaccurate and needs some work, but other than that I think it is good for beginners.

Duolingo is a great resource and Ive learned a great deal from it, Id say as long as it's not your ONLY resource to learn
