why does duolingo save my responses to gmail?

Whenever I make an answer, duolingo says my response is saved to gmail. What does that mean? why do they do that? Does that increase my storage amount in google?

What do you mean by "make an answer"?
Do you mean posting a discussion or comment in the forums?
Making a comment in a sentence discussion?
Completing one sentence/exercise in a lesson?

Do you have a screen shot of where Duo says this?

Just trying to get a clear picture of what you're asking.
Thanks!

I should have been more clear. When the duolingo program says something like, "type the following in English" or "Type this sentence in Spanish," when I do that, a quick line at the bottom pops up and says something like, "all responses saved in gmail." It's only there for a brief second, so impossible to send you a screenshot of it. I'm a bit concerned because I am running out of space on my google drive (where gmail emails are also stored) and am afraid that duolingo is filling up my storage. If so, I'll need to find it and delete some of the old ones to give me more space. Is that more clear, sorry to be confusing.

Much more clear, thank you! I've not noticed that myself - hopefully someone else will chime in with ideas soon! I can see how it would be pretty much impossible to capture a screenshot of that. :-/

Out of curiosity, what browser are you using? That could have something to do with displayed messages.

I'm using the built in browser on my Android phone. I've never done duolingo on my laptop or Chromebook, where I have Chrome. Chrome and android are similar (both made by Google), but they aren't the same, so I don't know if it would do the same thing if I did it there. My assumption is that duolingo saves these on whatever is the storage system of the user. In my case, I have a Google phone, so it saves my information onto the Google drive. I'd prefer it didn't, however, so I do hope someone else chimes in and shows a way to stop it, or tweak it into another drive.

On my phone (Android v7.1.1) I have switched off Duolingo's permission for "Storage":

From the Android Settings menu:

  • scroll to "Device"
  • tap: Apps - Duolingo - Permissions - Storage - OFF
