"Ai-je ma pomme ?"
I was learned that in French they do not use such form of question sentences with "je". Instead they would say "est-ce que j'ai ma pomme?" The exception to this rule is the verb "pouvoir". "May I have this apple? - Puis-je prendre cette pomme?" Please correct me if I'm wrong
You are right about "ai-je", in particular in oral, we tend to use "est-ce que" quite a lot, because it acts as a warning: "hey, here is a question coming!"
