Need translation ASAP
Hello! I actaully won a tattoo contest and got myself a free one, but i need to translate the phrase first. Can any1 help me?
"A man is the master of his silences and a slave to his words" Thanks!
Here is a quick solution, although there may be other ways to translate it.
Vala zȳho lyko āeksio se zȳrho udrȳti dohaeriros issa.
This translation is mostly done word by word, only for "silence" I couldn't find a HV word. There is only the verb "to silence - lykemagon" and the noun is "lyks" meaning "peace", so I used this for the translation. So literally it is "A man is the master of his peace..."
Maybe you can find a better word there.
Hmm... I think we might be able to manage to go a little better - there's also the word 'jogeltigon' also meaning 'to silence', as well as the adjective 'lyka' meaning 'silent', so it's possible the word 'silence' is 'lykir' (n. 5aq.), although I wouldn't be at all surprised if 'lyks' is also a valid word for 'silence' - they have the same stem ('lyk') after all!
I'd go with either option 1 - "Vala zȳho lyko āeksio" or option 2 - "Vala zȳrho lykio āeksio" - which one is best depends on the exact meaning of 'lyks' (so far, what we have for definite is that this means peace, which is the first option) and how valid the word 'lykir' is (there's no reason I know of for it not to be valid as the construction of it is known and valid, except that DJP has never explicitly stated it as a word)
