El televisor VS La televisión, ver, mirar, prender y encender
Let's discuss about how to use this pair of words... When are they synonyms? When are they different? ¿Ver o mirar la televisión? ¿Prender o encender la tele?
"Televisor" is usually the device and "televisión" the media. Some people say "televisión" for devices, but never the opposite. Prender and encender are synonyms in this contexts, mirar and ver are slightly different, but usually interchangeable in this context.
I use "prender", "mirar" and "tele" for both things.
“Prender” and “encender” are synonyms. I think “prender” is used in América and “encender” is more used in Spain. I’m Spanish and I would use “ver la televisión” but grammaticly is correct to say “mirar la television”. Hope I helped you.
"La television" can be used as the general network of channels included, when you say "El televisor" is more like a reference to the device. That's why you can also say: "Si, yo vi eso anoche en televisión" [Yeah, I saw that last night on tv]
Like they said in America people tend to say more "ver" instead of mirar, even tho they mean the same thing, i'm mexican and i always say ver, i never say televisor i just say tele or televisión and i say prende.
"Ver" is to see. Example: "te veo" = I see you "Mirar" is to look. Example: "mira me" = Look at me Prender and encender have been well covered by others. Same with Televisor and television
