Why am I getting lesser XP Points?
Hi folks. When I would do the Skip Level test, I would be given a certain number of XPs, say 200 XPs for doing 0/20 test or 300 XPs for a 0/30 test.
Now I'm getting only 20 points for the same skip level test. Did Duolingo change their XP Point system all of a sudden?
They screwed it up because of idiots abusing it for leaderboards on mobile. I'm with you. It's pretty annoying that we're getting punished for something a minority is doing.
Exactly, a few idiots do what idiots do and the whole duo community has to be punished, including PC users
I wonder where you find this information: is there a page, where changes like this are documented?
I'm sure there's a better way of handling it, though. Perhaps, making it so you won't gain any exp in leagues for a language after deleting it and adding it again or making it so you lose whatever exp you got in that language in the league once you delete it.
I suppose it does sound silly. However, points are given to incent us to spend more time on DuoLingo. And, IT WORKS! I suspect without this added incentive, some may spend more of their time on other teaching tools. We will see.
Having points on duo makes it fun. We can have fun and learn at the same time like ET Gregor said. There is no reason why we can't have points and learn
Basically I agree with you, the gamification aspect should not be over-emphasized. On the other hand I expect (a little bit), that the number of XPs to some extend should reflect my progress in a certain language (to give me an idea on how I progress in different languages - not to compete with others).
it should reflect how much work you have put in, not your knowledge. the crowns show your knowledge level already
Agreed. People seem to care more about XP, streaks and the number of flags next their username than actually learning a language. I wonder whether these people do much language learning outside of Duolingo, or if they are just hooked on the "game" aspect of the website.
yes this is true but still i used to have compettitions with my boyfriend and try to get ahead of him, it was a way in which i had a reason to study for the languages, and it was fun. i really enjoyed having that and now that its gone, i dont do as much as i probably should because i dont have tim e in my day
Very true, why care about the points or lingots and not the new knowledge? To much focus on the gamification propably hurts the learning sinse that rewards skipping exact spellings and resetting the progress bar. And our minds are getting focused on the points instead of the words.
First off, it is a lame update and secondly, if so, then Duolingo must reduce the maximum 30000 xp for level 25 to the reasonable minimum...bcoz it takes a lot of time to reach that point...
All right, changing the score in SKIP LEVEL TEST is a very sad problem for everyone in Duolingo.
Duolingo has been going downhill ever since it was monetized. I also feel like the devs have been dropping the ball. This is a basic bootstrap website that uses alerts in the game. They could figure out a better way to stop people from abusing the system than to punish all of us.
