"Against his daughters' wishes"

April 9, 2013

The sentence "Gegen den Wunsch seiner Frauen" was correct earlier, note that Wunsch is singular there. I expect that this sentence should either be "Gegen die Wünche seiner Töchter" (both akkusativ form) or the correct form of the first sentence should have been "Gegen dem Wunsch seiner Frauen" (dativ form). Why is the singular form akkusativ but the plural is dativ?

It's wrong. Please report it. It's either 'Gegen die Wünsche seiner Töchter' or 'Entgegen den Wünschen seiner Töchter'. 'Gegen' takes the accusative, 'entgegen' takes the dative.
