La salle d'assises - Conference Hall or Court Room?
This probably has once been the same room in many towns. But I have found that "salle d'assises" translates to "conference hall" whereas "cour d'assises" describes a "court room". Any opinions on that?
"les assises de la cardiologie" refer to a conference on cardiology. Personally, have never seen "salle d'assises" ; it sounds and looks a bit weird, and you would risk to be misunderstood if you were to use it. Better use "une salle de conférence". And "les assises" or more precisely "la cour d'assises" is indeed from the legal field. It is a criminal court and the very room where the trial takes place.
