I usually don't use the forums often unless I want a question answered or if I want to check up on an update. But, I still notice a consistent mindset about the website that I disagree with.
People say that Duolingo is not about the xp, the golden trees, lingots ect. That is correct. The website still has intrinsic value of the learning itself, but gamification of language learning is still an important part of the website. If someone is upset that they feel like their progress was wiped away or less valuable because of an update, then that is understandable. If you're not the kind of person who cares about the extrinsic rewards the website gives you then that is also fine. Not all updates will effect everyone equally.
We should keep in mind that everyone is different, and some people need extra motivation.
That is very try and I think that you should be most honored for your positive attitude. Arigato, thank you, for keeping this forum having a positive attitude. Sayonara!
I would add that many of us who don’t like the recent major change are AT LEAST as annoyed by the fact that it was sprung on us with no warning as we are about the change itself. When we make plans and set goals based on how the site has been working for us and then they pull the rug out, that’s just irritating and tiresome.
I have been completing the lessons, earning XP, Lingots and Crowns, while keeping my streak alive. However, when I go to check my standings on the leaderboard, I receive the message "Complete a lesson to join this week's leaderboard", with a picture of poor Duo lying on his back, unable to awaken from his slumber. Am I going to be relegated to a lower level? will I be able to advance to the next higher league? Will my wife keep piking on my because I'm STILL in the gold league, while she is platinum? oh, the shame I must endure, due to no fault of my own!
