Goodbye for now!

Hi to Linda7Italian, Hamiyet, Sandra, Polin J, all my followers and all the people I am following.

I began 478 days ago, to supplement my Spanish skills, as part of working with a multilingual woman singer. I had studied Spanish and Italian since 2006, as a means of translating Spanish and Italian song lyrics.

Duolingo has been fun and a great learning experience.

But I have completed Spanish from English, Italian from English, English from Italian and English from Spanish.

I haven't memorized all the different totals. Over 220,000 xp, All Skills to Level 5 in all courses, 4 Golden Owls.

I worked hard at this, and I don't know what I am going to do next. But I learned a lot, and definitely have all the knowledge I need to do what I am still doing, producing music with multilingual singers.

I have enjoyed watching all these people move forward.

Good luck to everyone!

There's a fair amount of confusion as to exactly what constitutes a 'Golden Owl' mostly because those people who complete a Tree, get rewarded with a Duo Owl that is coloured gold. They therefore naturally call it 'A Golden Owl', but it's not strictly correct, although it does depend on how you wish to define it.

Over time people have come to call 'A golden Owl' as a Tree where all the lessons have been completed to Level 5 Gold.

Here's my Gold Duo Owl for English to Spanish:

Is there some language you would like to learn or are interested in? Why not start a new course? :)

Hi

This is a general response to everyone that has suggested learning another language, or using more of the tools available.

I studied all the main courses in Spanish and Italian. These are the languages that I am using.

I am 65 years old, and am not seeking other singers to work with in other languages. It is very likely that this is my last professional project.

And while the courses have been an excellent means of study, they have very little direct application to Song Lyrics, Idiomatic phrasing, and individual interpretation. It is often very difficult to translate Lyrics. Whether it is the songs we are attracted to, or some other reason, none of the lyrics refer to parents, relatives, school, books, belongings, streets, addresses, teachers, keys, watches, bags, sports, medicine, food, etc.

95% of the topics in the lessons don't apply to what we are doing.

I still enjoyed it, but I don't need to do it again. I already know French, but I don't enjoy any French musicians, or Greek, or German, etc.

And while I may have achieved Level 25 and beyond, the singer I am working with speaks at least 5 languages, at the (I can and have gone to these other countries and lived there). Spain, Italy, Mexico, the Carribean, India, West Africa, Japan, etc.

She would be at about Level 500. She says and writes things that I will forever need a few dictionaries to translate, and still need her help.

So, no more courses, and no more studies and drills.

I really am done.
