Duolingo stole me 88 euros.
I suscribed to Duolingo Plus for freee just to try it for a couple of days to see what it's like. I didnt have any money in my bank account related to the appstore. Then i had to travel to make a new passport and needed to pay 20 euros. I finally couldnt do it because there werent enough money in my card so i had to phone my parents asking for more money and explaining the issue. The thing is that i didnt expect duolingo to take the money of the whole year at once. i am so shocked and i want my money back, i do not want to use dulingo plus, i was only trying it. If i knew before that they would take my money from my bank account i wouldnt even try duolingo plus in first place. Is there still anything to do yet?
Important lesson not just Duo does this, it is common practice on the internet with free trial offers. On any free trial offer you must cancel the subscription before the trial ends (I usually cancel immediately I have subscribed as the subscription still last for the length of the trial.)
As for a 12 month subscription, again it is standard practice to pay the 12 months up front. That is why it can be so much cheaper than a Monthly subscription.
Both schemes while being annoying, they are perfectly legal so you should be careful about using words like “stolen” and get a bit more streetwise before using credit cards on the internet.
Some might call it "automatic renewal". There should be an option to opt-out as soon as you start the free trial.
