Romanian difficult to start
Why start the Romanian course so difficult. The first sentence is incomprehensible. Other courses start with three words,. I would like to learn this language do not know how I should start. Can somebody help me. Thanks
I have just tested the first lesson of the Romanian course with a freshly started version of the course.
The first exercise I had was a picture exercise for "fată" = "girl". The first non-picture exercise longer than one word was "un bărbat" = "a man". The first sentence I had was "Eu nu sunt fată, sunt băiat." = "I am not a girl, I am a boy."
The words for "girl" and "boy" had already been introduced. The three new words are not difficult, particularly as 1) a learner can hover the mouse cursor over the words to get a translation, and 2) this was an arrange the words exercise, so all the words were provided. [Edit: There are admittedly a couple of minor difficulties in the particular sentence the course presented me with, notably adding back in the omitted indefinite articles. For some the difficulty of this may seem either greater or lesser than for others.]
I will presume you can't remember the Romanian sentence that you found incomprehensible. But I am curious - weren't there lots of simple picture exercises in that first lesson? How many words that hadn't been introduced do you recall being in that sentence? Do you remember the English for it? Was it a "wordbank" exercise or a typing exercise?
Certainly it's not guaranteed you had the same experience as me; Duolingo doesn't always give the same experience to everyone.
