Tree progress basically gone in French

I still have my crowns, but of the dozens of skills I had turned gold in my French tree I now only have seven. Everything else shows zero progress and offers Level 1 when I click on it.

I can see that the tree has been radically restructured, and I guess that means a lot of my work can't be represented in the new tree. There are blue dots everywhere but no explanation.

I've only been using Duo for a few months. Is this what I'm supposed to be seeing? Is this kind of experience-breaking, un-announced change normal here?

I know it's a free service and my right to complain is limited, but this is really discouraging and I don't understand why it wasn't at least messaged ahead of time.

Happened to me as well. I was at the end of the French course and now I would need to restart from basic 2. It does not look right. I will wait a few days to see if it gets fixed. If it doesn't I will cancel my plus subscription.

I paid for my program and just got a new tree. I, too, lost many of the lessons that had turned to gold. Can I get my "old tree" back? ( I wonder why I wasn't asked if I wanted a new tree!)

Same here. Several golden skills were removed and basically reverted to zero without asking me. That, plus XP-cap, plus the terrifying new look from the app now even transferred to the web version virtually neutralizes any motivation left.

It doesn't happen frequently and I think most people engaged here follow the discussions. And most people look forward to getting a better tree. So maybe Duo didn't see the need for emailing people individually.

It is very demotivating but makes the overall experience of learning French much, much more complete in the long run. I'm new here too and, like you say, as a free program we don't really have much choice except take it or leave it. Just know that everyone is in the same boat and we're all learning together. I suspect this may remove some who are just gaming and not really interested in learning the language, for better or worse.

How does being set back to 0 on greetings such as bonjour make the experience more complete? Do we really need to type bonjour and salut in 40+ lessons again?

That is the purpose of testing out of skills if you can. Also, it may be why the cap was put on XP since if you are already that advanced you could speed through many skills at one sitting. Is the option to test out and get credit for many skills no longer available? I haven't checked it. But that is another option. Hope this helps. My comment on the experience being "complete" was that we now have the opportunity to learn many different skills more fully.

You can only test out of level 0 for free otherwise you have to use 400 gems per unlock. So unless you have a massive stash of them you’re stuck with being back at the beginning
