Should not "This duck looks like chicken" ( i.e. without the "a" ) also be considered correct?

Its semantically slightly different. "This duck looks like a chicken" would be used when talking about a specific animal, whereas "This duck looks like chicken" can be used when talking about a dish (e.g. if suspecting being served cheaper meat)

In both cases the Bahasa sentence would still be "Bebek ini mirip ayam", no?
