Do you like TKG?

Hi, I am native Japanese spend my days of elementary school in America.

I was wondering for years what non-Japanese people feel about eating Tamago kake gohan AKA TKG, which is raw egg on rice with soy sauce. In Japan, it’s a very popular food and considered really delicious and I love it too. But I know many non Japanese people think it gross to eat raw eggs.

Let me know your honest opinion! If you’re wondering what the food is like, I found below article for you to check.

Even if you feel it’s gross, don’t hesitate to say, coz I’ve experienced many MANY different cultures;)

Well... raw food feels unsafe to eat. And, honestly... a bit disgusting.

One interesting piece of information is that while typical raw eggs are indeed not safe to eat, Japanese eggs are processed to be eaten raw without causing any health problems. Even the expiration date on egg packs in Japan shows the last date by which eggs are edible raw, and as far I've read, you can add about ten days to that date if you're going to eat them cooked.

thanks for your reply Arachnje, as you say, the Japanese companies sets the expiration dates based on 1/3 of period before the food probably gets bad, just for their protection, not to be sued

BTW when I was in elementary school in the US, I remember my (american)friends saying how yuck to eat fish skin which Japanese do. I thought the same at that days but now, as an adult, I realize that I was too immature to explain/know how delicious it is if you cook in a way.

For example, salmon skin is very thick and it’s yucky to eat raw, but you’ll find it amazingly delicious if you bake a lot till it gets really crispy. it’s kind of grownups delight and no kids will appreciate it;)

I still understand that people don’t eat fish a lot feels yucky.

true. I have learned many cultures and I have many stuffs I can’t eat. I just wanted to know what other people feel about japanese culture .

and I want to know the honest feelings coz people hesitate to tell them the truth when they don’t like it, but in TKG case, I don’t care! I SIMPLY WANT TO KNOW HOW PEOPLE FEELS ABOUT IT:). It was a question for me for almost 20 yrs lol
