Save our clubs

I am shellshocked Why on earth do you want to kill the clubs? We have a wonderful Italian club with a fabulous volunteer instructor. We have a wonderful, very international Spanish club. Several native speakers are there to help. Most of us learn far more in the monolingual club than from endless repetitive translations. We also have a nice Portuguese group. So why on earth do you want to kill this? Following does not include interaction, it is utterly pointless.

Just a reminder, if you really don't want the clubs to go please vote on this link, Duo says it will send feedback to them and they might be more prone to read it rather than posts. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeBY_RqEwl2x9heBSKL0jZSnNNiW4WzNSM33ztgMJA7Y9OahQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

They need to improve the clubs not remove them. Like bringing back features like being able to see members' xp for each language and being able to have a club description and joining requirements like minimum level and such. I'm tired of getting level 1 people in my club every week and having to delete them sunday because they did like 3 lessons and then quit, only to be replaced by more 1 day users. I also think that it would be beneficial to have two seperate interfaces for chatting and for the little duolingo prompts that push down chats or something like that. I worked hard for months and completed the entire Korean course and it makes me kind of upset that no one in my club can see that anymore.

@TheWeePookie - I agree with you on being able to see xp per language. It was so beneficial to be able to see immediately how serious a new member was and how much latitude to give them on staying in the club or whether they are one day one lesson people.

Stergi3 started a petition to save our clubs. I thought I might post the link here.

https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/please-save-duolingo-clubs

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/tolunayo

If you respond to the petition please also respond to the above survey.

It is not clear if Duo will pay any attention to that petition at all so survey is more likely to yield results.

Please respond to the survey, and select the leagues as the worst feature announcement and put a few words on why you think it is bad (for example, leagues lack the interactive group experience of the club)

May 3, 2019

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

the problem is, there are two very bad updates. so which one is worse? losing clubs? or getting health? refuse to choose just one

May 4, 2019

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Stergi3

I already answered to the questions in the survey. I made the petition to help the effort to keep the clubs alive. There is no explicit question about clubs in Duolingo survey, so it cannot be taken as a statistically important answer, in case that there are thousands who answered just the bulleted questions, the rest answers ("Other") can be skipped as they are not coded in a framework.

I agree with you. I've been trying to look at accounts and remove obvious inactive / dummy (bots?) accounts. I'm not really good enough to have any length of discussion in the languages I play, but I see a few active people in the club who is and I hope once I get to a certain level, I could join in. Until then I was hoping to at least offer the club as active playground for those who wanted to use it.

I haven't gotten the update yet but if what I read is true about pure leaderboard and league focus... man, thats going to burn out alot of people. I think becoming an active speaker should be the ultimate reward that you can achieve rather than some digital trophy.

Hmm, so I can't object to the removal of clubs without implying that this is worse than Health (which DL will chalk up as a supporter of Health, as it wouldn't be my 'worst thing', and this is not an impression I want to give).

This 'survey' is really unbelievably loaded and partial in its design and methodology. Proper surveys that are genuinely intended to gain data that reflect reality do not corral respondents in such a blatant way. This being the case, I'd be far from sure that DL will pay much or any attention to complaints arising through it about changes it has already made without any consultation of its user base.

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

Well said. Some things are so manipulative. 'What can we do to improve xxx' well don't do it in the first place. To be honest I have never seen 'health' or was that when they had the 3 hearts to test out? Never mind, I believe you if you say it is horrible.

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/garpike

I don't object to the heart system per se (i.e. the heart part): what I object to are the artificial limitations that lock failed lessons with a timer in an attempt to frustrate users into spending real money on gems or Plus. People learn languages by lots of repetition and making lots of mistakes; the new hearts system largely makes this impossible without paying, and effectively makes DL no longer a free app.

This is also in the very worst traditions of 'Freemium' apps in that the experience for users who don't pay is deliberately and unnecessarily contrived to be made worse, rather than making the experience for those who do pay any better.

    April 27, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Bunny899589

This is interesting.. I used to have the hearts system, but it's been gone for several months.

    April 28, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Andresb_UY

It's exactly that but five hearts for all new lessons (that's the way it was)

We could avoid these with an even older version than 3.60, the 3.50 that nowadays would be like using the very first old fashioned 3.23 without anything, almost.

Im afraid so, they can vanish clubs in a blink. (no matter our version)

Will they do it, with all clubs really? Shame, i really love my "russian" and "italian" fellows. In clubs we can share links and files that we can't do it so openly in forums. (copyright issues for example)

I always use the app unless I come to the website for discussions or stories. There was a notice saying they were changing it to something else and could join whatever it is now or you can stay in your club but by May 19th everyone will be removed from the clubs. And it was also giving you a last chance to be friends with them. Although right now being friends really means almost nothing at all. Maybe that will change. Hopefully

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/tolunayo

They will shut down the server side infrastructure that allows the clubs to run. The can do that easily without you ever updating. It will disappear in a blink of an eye!

    Dear Duolingo team,

today I received the invitation for the new leaderboards and to become a Duolingo champion. I am not a Duolingo champion and I find this whole idea about the leagues a total misconception. Closing the clubs - I am an admin of a very active club - is one of the worst ideas ever and I will cancel my pro account when it comes to that. Learning languages as a competition instead of in an environment of 50 familiar and nice people is definitely not my thing.

    Best regards Daniel

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

Yes Daniel you expressed it very well.

Here is my comment in the feedback Replacing a social, interactive and volunteer based impovment feature by a silly competition (how many repetitive translations can I do in 10 minutes) Interaction and practice of dialogues is essential to learning. We don't really need the prompt questions. We just need corrections by our fabulous volunteers, members who think of new subjects all the time and the interaction. Following somebody does not help at all, it is just another pointless table.

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/..KT..

Agreed. Now I have no way to contact my friends on Duolingo anymore.

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

@Daniel730298 Well said. Like you I am an admin of a wonderful active club. Closing down clubs damages an important part of the learning process. We have set up an off-site club as a result, because having a group of like minded language learners from all over the world is incredibly supportive and helpful. Good luck Daniel.

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/shavore

I agree. I have been an enthusiastic member and administrator of a club for several years. The community aspect of this app is what keeps me motivated to return to my learning each day. I inadvertently signed up for the leaderboards and in the process am no longer a member of this club and had to start another in the hope that clubs might not disappear next month. It they do disappear I may be looking for another venue to continue my learning.

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

Yes, people like you keep Dúo going once the tree is finished. We evolve to a communicative way of learning once we are past the 2nd stage, there is no point labouring the baubles again. So the clubs provide a volunteer classroom. If you still have contact with your friends ask for the code and get back in

    April 27, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

why don’t you just use your club code?

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Boni481226

It’s really saddening to watch how they slowly and surely destroy their own product...

    April 28, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/An_Artists_Blade

I feel like leaderboards should exist but clubs should stay. on the leaderboard you don't need to participate

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Boni481226

Club administrators like you, Daniel, is what has been keeping most of us as Duolingo users for so long. We all have multiple tools for learning a language everywhere around us. What we lacked was a suitable learning platform and that’s what Duolingo has been providing us with for some time. It used to be great and Duolingo gained popularity ( especially at the time when the max capacity of each club was 15 members and we were able to close the clubs whenever so called “trolls” were trying to bother us ). Mediators were not required then because we were able to handle any issue on our own just fine... Then they started taking away all the great features one after the other...

    April 28, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Boni481226

I appealed already to the members in five clubs where I participate to fill up the feedback form and vote. Let’s hope that the Duo team will chose to read them all, reconsider their policy and take actions to save and revive their app before it’s too late and they lose us all - their most passionate and faithful users.

    April 28, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Boni481226

...I don’t understand their marketing and educational strategy anymore and to me what we are witnessing is total lack of both of them...

    April 28, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Ifphigenia

I have left a comment on Duolingo forms and will repeat it here ( You never know it might be read by the powers that be).

The ability for learners to assist one another, particularly the ability for native speakers to help learners of their language has been severely eroded over the past 2 or 3 years. Clubs are the only remaing (limited) way in which this can still happen and now it seems Duolingo is set on removing that last vestigial ability to interact with fellow users in a mutually helpful way. Why Duolingo? Just why? Do those of us who help each other, both the advanced learners helping the novices and the native speakers helping the advanced learners not count in your world? It certainly seems that way from our perspective. Please consider what we have already lost and reconsider this final axe blow. What would make it great would be to improve on Clubs, reinstate an activity stream where we can interact again on language issues, or at least expand Clubs to the website. Plus a final plea into the wilderness ... please bring back an immersion feature. It is essential when learning languages to receive support and assistance from native speakers and advanced learners to explain real everyday language usage to those less experienced. Forums are no substitute for individual assistance and mutual support.

Finally, the new interface is too bright and too childish .... I want to be able to see what I'm looking at ... not suffer from snow blindness. Thanks Gena.

    April 24, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Stergi3

Ευχαριστώ πολύ, Ιφιγένεια! This is all I wanted to say to Duolingo. I am quite surprised by the transformation of the latest updates in Duolingo. Some members stay in Duolingo because of its social characteristic of language learning. I have a lot of friends I added through clubs. I will not be able to interact with them anymore. I try to correct their mistakes if I can. We are competing each other, putting a goal each week. Now we will be lost in the crowd.

@anitarrc I couldn’t agree more with you. Clubs are a wonderful supportive atmosphere with friendly competition and encouragement to learn more. Leaderboards are a soulless drive to earn points regardless of whether you learn anything or just repeat the same basic lesson a thousand times to beat 49 anonymous users.

Dear Duolingo management. I realise that your customers are the advertisers and we, the students, are your production environment. However if you don't take care of your production environment it might disappear. So instead of killing the clubs, which many persons love, please evolve them. Add more advanced tasks and support a chat function.

How can you make business from this? Why not let us pay with lingots for access to the clubs? Having lingots prove we are watching adds. Then you can be sure we do some exercises as well.

You have to be aware of that many people love the clubs. If you discontinue them, then other alternatives will be established outside Doulingo, e.g. in forums and social media.

There is still time to act!

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Linda7Italian

@Linda7Italian. Thank you Linda. I always try to focus on "what is the goal". It is not to upset DL management, it is to keep the club function. And I appreciate your comments on various places as well. Have a lingot and don't forget to do your exercises over the week end.

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Linda7Italian

Lennart. I have left you a farewell message on the club page. I would like to have known you a little longer but events have made it impossible for me to stay. No doubt we will bump into each other on the forum. How sad that our great club was unable to continue. Allora, my very best wishes...

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

get lingot to watch ads, there could be a business opportunity there... too much lingots around though. they are all given out for free. they have currently zero commercial value.

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/LennartAge2

Well, DL management can see this as a suggestion. They can adopt how to give lingots and what the "price" should be.

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/tolunayo

Why is Duolingo allergic to anything that allows users to interact with each other. First they killed the activity stream, now clubs. What's next. The forums?

I am extremely dismayed by this action. I don't see why they cannot have both the leagues and the clubs. I have 0 interest in leagues. We have a club that actually works.

Will Duo listen? Probably not. That is another problem.

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

if you learn from other people, you are “wasting“ time you could have spent on lessons and generated money through ads. it‘s that simple

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

Sadly, you might be right Although I think I have seen that Uber eat add now to an extent that I have really thrown up all the food :). Anyhow I am proud to say I manage to close them now by clicking in a corner without even looking

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/andresaalfaro

Agreed. Clubs were the only feature we could use to actually interact with one another. Now that clubs are gone, what the eff is the point of having friends on here? Why would I follow someone if I cannot interact with them and practice languages? Are we supposed to come to the discussion forums now to do this? I encourage anyone who has a pro account to cancel their membership until DL recognizes the importance of AUTHENTIC INTERACTION WITH OTHER HUMAN EFFING BEINGS.

I’m in a spanish club that I really like but I’d love to join your Facebook group if you’re ok with that. Just in case my club gets shut down. I’m a fairly active participant in my current club.

    April 27, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

@cindyFahrb - we would love to have you! Our group is set up but won’t become fully active until our club gets shut down. Right now we are getting as many of our members in as want to join or who are willing to set up Facebook accounts. Others are keeping the details in case Duolingo doesn’t replace the clubs with something social, but don’t want to use Facebook unless they have to. If you want to join you will need our club code JAK9X2. And the group page. https://m.facebook.com/groups/1096607303880097 Look forward to seeing you!

The point of learning a language is to communicate with other people..The club section keeps me coming back for banter and added interest. Why would Duolingo want to drive their users away? We already have a leaderboard and just competing for XP points without chatting about it is boring! Leave the clubs alone, it's one of Duolingo's most important features!

Duo has become a dictatorship. Our problems and sentiments are irrelevant to it. Our opinions have no weight. Only Duo knows best and what Duo does is always right. People in power always do this. Nothing new

    April 24, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/WendyGauntt

I am relatively new to Duolingo and have just gotten a small club established. We are friends in real life, and the club gives us all a great way to interact, connect, and support one another. A leaderboard will do nothing but turn us off from the learning process. We are not young kids playing a game that’s all about the win - we are adults enjoying ourselves by learning something new. The journey is the fun part, and clubs enhance that journey. Leaderboards are a big negative to us, pressure, the opposite of fun. We don’t have the time or desire to compete like that. Duolingo, please remember there are different people on here with different goals. Clearly many of us learn better with clubs than leaderboards.

I have already activated all people in my club to use the link provided by Andreas Garner below. And a very large amount of the users in my very active club is absolutely shocked by the way how Duolingo has introduced this new feature of the leaderboards as a substitute for our clubs. I will not accept it and I will change to another language platform if this will come true. One paying user less. If I could spend all my over 1500 lingots for Anitas post at once I would do it.

I just canceled my Plus membership ten minutes ago. It now expires in September. I'm just looking for ways to set up a password-protected forum with my club on a website to continue the nice communication with club members.

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

    Good for you Daniel!

If you find a way to set up the forum, can you let me know how you did it? I have set up a private facebook group for our club but (1) I don't like or use facebook, I have purely set up an account for our club members and (2) some of our members want to stay in our club, but equally don't want to use facebook.

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Stergi3

@redsed You can use Slack for your purpose. It is a good cooperative environment. It is used for project development. You can build one if you want to share experience with your old members of your clubs.

But I am really disappointed by the way Duolingo announced a so critical for learning decision. The same happened when they decided to demolish friends ' interaction so as I have a lot of friends and I cannot send them even one message.

Language learning is a social procedure. It is a well known pedagogical principle, based on thework of the classical construvistic pedagogist scholars, as Piaget and Vigotsky and more, Lave and Wenger, about situated learning. What is the pedagogy Duolingo is based on without a social dimension? I really cannot understand it!

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

Hi Stergi3. Thank you for the recommendation. I will look into Slack - I had not heard of it before! I agree language learning needs the social dimension. For Duolingo it boils down to leaderboards are cheaper to run than clubs.

Why replace the clubs with leaderboards? Sure I don't do clubs but why not have leaderboards AND clubs? The clubs are the one thing that give duo a warmer feel, where you can joke around and say things that aren't related.

Hi, I fully agree with you! Being in a club really brings fun and help ! I am in a Hebrew club and we are enjoying interesting exchanges, be it about the language itself or discussions about other matters or even sometimes in several languages ! Sharing is a key word for understanding each other.. Please Duolingo management, don't suppress the clubs !

Please don't kill the clubs. Interaction and communication is the most important goal of each language student. I want to help others to learn my mother language, Spanish, without getting money for it.

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

People like you make Dúo great. We have three native speakers in our club and I am so thankful for their help. My Spanish is really good in vocabulary, but my grammar really needs improvement. When I started in the club, I was struggling with the 'preterito simple. Today I venture into the subjontivo in all tenses even when talking and can write much better

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

Hi Clemenceau. I agree with Anita. Thank you for helping people learn your language. We have a fantastic Spanish club where we help each other, but we don’t have a native speaker amongst our members!! If you ever want to join us....... we would love to have you!!

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/LennartAge2

Why are the clubs useful? Because everything in normal tree of DL is about translating given sentences between English and, in my case, Italian. This is frustrating since my native language is Swedish. So several translations are needed. In the clubs I can practice creating my own expressions and understand what others write. This is very important if I ever want to speak with someone in Italy. There is a need of creating connections in my brain from "thoughts" to "Italian". Avete capito? And btw, I have filled in the feedback!

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

I am the sane.i can perfectly think in English {my second language} or French but I find translations only helpful in the very beginning. Therefore the new Spanish tree was a big disappointment. Our Italian club is essential to my learning, Vito corrects me patiently in Italian with examples and he understands what I mix up with Spanish

As Birgit already said, "Discord" could be a very handy option, as a complement.

I don't use nor like FB, Twitter, nor Instagram and on WhatsApp we need to share openly our cellphones, so.., That's really is a good option.

    April 26, 2019

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

Hi Birgit, what I meant was it does not have threads like clubs, it has channels. each channel is just a stream, there are no threads inside the channel, like how it works in the clubs

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Andresb_UY

Yes, you are right. It doesn't replace them, still, it's a good option if clubs go away.

    April 27, 2019

But clubs text goes away very shortly and you can't search. So it's six of one, half a dozen of the other I'm afraid. Usenet is a good, albeit expensive option.

Please reconsider as the interaction has kept me challenged and adds great interest to increasing my fluency. And to others as well. Everything AnitaRRC says is correct,,more learning is achieved by interaction than by endless repetitive translations. Again,,many of the Duo Members abhor this idea.

Here's a wild idea: both clubs AND leagues? They could make that work, right?

    April 26, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/RobertEddy

The clubs provide a finite cohort of learners -- we compete and cheer for each other. App-wide leaderboards are so big as to be meaningless. Please, Duo, do not take another backward step to make our learning here less interesting!

Another comment in favour of the Clubs... I first downloaded the Mobile Version of Duolingo probably close to 3 years ago but I would have stopped using the App long time ago if it wasn’t for the CHAT option that was introduced by Duo- it added life, and fun and a sense of real accomplishment upon every successful exchange of thoughts with the club- members. Ever since I opened my Club and I am an active member of 3 more. We all became friends and we interact using the respective language that we study together. Having our Duo Clubs is like having our own classroom with our favourite classmates and teachers ( the native speakers among us in each group ). We share a passion together - for the language we study. You take the Clubs away from us = you loose us as users, sooner or later. And if you reconsider and choose to keep the Clubs as a option for those who don’t want to join the Leaderboards/ Leagues, then we would probably never leave and will continue advertising Your App to our circle of friends as the best App ever. So far, I have been rating Duolingo with 10/10. If you forcefully close the Clubs and the chat option- I would rate you with 2 / 10 for failing to listen to Your most passionate and faithful users.

There is no facility (message or chat room) on Duolingo, except the forums and clubs. Club is very useful to improve our language skill through exercises (questions) and enable us to communicate one another. We can share and correct others who make mistakes. DON'T DELETE CLUBS. WE STILL AND ALWAYS NEED THEM!!!

I can't recall if it was in that post or in the comments on the post, but HelpfulDuo mentioned to follow your club members because there is something else in the works. I honestly have no idea what that is, but my guess is that it will be something social. I know a lot of people really like the clubs. We have members who use them to practice every single day. I don't want to lose the clubs, either. But it's possible that whatever is coming will have the same or similar features that you are looking for.

    April 24, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

I appreciate your feedback but we really rely on our Italian club, without it the very restricted teaching in Duo becomes pointless. I give you an example, I finished the Indonesian tree and can barely express the basics because I never found a good club. I am already more confident in Italian because of Vito's work in the club and I have 4000 points, no more. Leagues do the opposite, they encourage mindless repetitive exercises and discourage dialogue

    April 25, 2019

    https://www.duolingo.com/profile/zanzaboonda

Personally, I don't want the clubs to go, either. I use them for our local events that I host, and I certainly see value beyond how I use them. Helpful Duo said that "interesting features" are coming, in relation to friends and followers. I'm not sure what that means, exactly, but it doesn't sound like the social aspect is disappearing. I'm simply recommending that we see what they have in store. I agree that the interactivity certainly adds a lot.

Why get rid of the clubs if they're going to be replaced by something similar or exactly the same?

      April 24, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/zanzaboonda

I don't want to make any guesses, but there could be any number of reasons that we aren't thinking of or don't know about. Let's speak in generalities since I really don't know any specifics, but I'll try to answer your question as best I can.

For example, you could have a feature on an app or website that is developed in conjunction with another company (i.e., you purchase or lease an existing product) or the product could be bespoke/custom coded just for you by someone else or by your employees. One version may be less compatible than the other or be much much difficult to maintain. There could be difficulties implementing features that weren't in the initial plans (inability to customize). If you use software from an outside company (I'm not saying or suggesting Duolingo is - I have no idea), you might pay for a set of features that aren't used or needed, and there could be better, faster, and cheaper ways to do nearly the exact same thing with something similar or something done in house.

As inconvenient or problematic or difficult some of these things might be on a small scale, imagine the logistics or associated costs when the product involves millions of users. Or perhaps not enough users utilize the clubs to justify the existing budget and they want to go in a different direction.

My point is, we don't know what we don't know. I have no idea what factors were involved in this decision. I'm not privy to such information (and as most businesses don't share such detailed logistics with their end users, I doubt they will open up that can of worms for debate).

Duolingo is kind of unique in that there's this amazing community of dedicated and passionate users. A lot of us (myself included) want to know more, want to be involved more, and want to have our voices heard more. I know that, realistically, such things are not always practical or feasible, but I'm really happy that they seem to be putting forth a lot more effort to communicate, both more clearly and in advance of said changes taking place.

I'm just a volunteer, but I do know several employees. I've met many of them in person, including (briefly) Luis. For what it's worth, I can honestly tell you that this is a small, passionate team who cares very much about their users and about how and why people learn. They want to provide everyone with a free but valuable and sustainable product. My experience is that there have always been good intentions each step of the way, even when I didn't initially like or agree with the changes, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here, especially since they seem to be hinting at upcoming features. Other users are more concerned, and that's fine, too. There's room for all of us and how we feel. But I'm personally going to wait and see what happens.

I hope this helped answer your question a bit, even with so many unknowns.

      April 24, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

Did you just mention the amazing community? The clubs are exactly that. No clubs equals no communication between learners and no community

      April 25, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

@AnitaRRC - So true. No clubs with no replacement will lead to a soulless learning environment. Yes we all use Duolingo to learn a language for ourselves, but a supportive community takes that learning to the next level.

The official Duo post said to follow people in your club because clubs are being replaced with leaderboards.

Edit: here it is: Leaderboards is now available on iOS and will soon come to the website as well. Attention! Leaderboards are in the process of replacing Clubs, so make sure you follow your club-friends this month

      April 25, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/GitteElisa2

What is the point of that if you can't talk to each other on leaderboards? Totally useless.

      April 27, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Andresb_UY

Obviously (and unfortunately) Duo is focusing in the game part, not social. From their point of view i am sure it has a lot of sense.

Sadly, we are not "them" and they may think we are "theirs" anyway.

      April 27, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/zanzaboonda

Yes, you are correct. Thanks! :) There's also a comment from HelpfulDuo (as of this comment, it's result 16/17 when searching for "helpful" on that thread): "Interesting features around your friends and followers are planned ahead. Stay tuned!" Something close to that, anyways (apparently, you can't copy forum content via mobile). So I'm very curious what "interesting features" they have planned.

I created my own club after being in a very inactive one for some time, so I could remove inactive members and keep the club full of folk who want to interact. It's a fantastic little tool that allows us to encourage each other and offer little tidbits of advice on how we approach our learning. It's such a shame that rather than improving a popular feature, they would rather just let it go...

      April 25, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

@PhilipColl5 - exactly the same as you. I created my own group and it has grown into an amazing active community of people who want to learn and practice their Spanish. By having the club setting, we come together from all over the world, but support one another and celebrate each other's achievements and growth.

We have already set up a group outside Duolingo in advance of the clubs being shut down as we don't want to lose this kind of supportive environment and just amass xp points with non-communicative strangers.

Duolingo can teach words and phrases. Clubs allow you to have real back and forth conversations.

That's so cool that you're staying in touch beyond clubs. My club is rather new so unfortunately I don't think it would be appropriate to suggest the same to my members. It's a damn shame to see clubs go, but I'm glad you found a work around to keep you all together!

      April 26, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

Hi Alicia. What I have done so far is this. I am not a Facebook user, so I created an account purely for this purpose. I then set up a private group with entry questions and posted the link in our club. Some members already use Facebook and have joined using their existing accounts. Some are like me and have created a stand alone Facebook account in order to join the group. And there are some members who want to stay in the club but just don’t want to use Facebook (which I completely understand) and so they have taken down the joining details in case they want to join us later after the clubs get shut down next month. This way, no one has to swap any personal information.

I’ll make the offer here, if any of you are currently in an active Spanish club or run one and don’t want the hassle of setting up a group like this, you are more than welcome to come and join us.

      Good luck all!

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Sheila373298

The clubs, particularly as they are kept relatively small are a nice way to be able to open up a conversation, communicate regularly with the same group of people, or join in one of Duolingo’s offered club activities to practice interacting in the language you are studying and to get tips from other members on how to better reinforce the skills, etc.
Initially the leaderboards seemed useless to me, but soon I found them (as well as the encouraging reminders from Duo) to incentivize me when I’m kind of busy, or sluggish and might otherwise let my streak lapse for a day...which could then go to two...or more. The leaderboards do tend to keep me going, so probably motivates others as well.

It makes us eager to open the app and enjoy languages! In our chinese club, our chinese teacher helps us out; In the Spanish, stronger learners direct the novices, i.e. me LOL! So so so bummed they eliminated clubs. I engaged in good-natured competition and updates with my family and friends. We kept up with each other and motivated each other. I find the leaderboards to be meaningless. Why would I care if some random person studying another language beats me? And if I beat them, I'll never see them again anyway, since the following week we'll be on different leaderboards. Maybe someone cares to compete with ever-changing random strangers learning different languages. Not me. My main motivational strategy to keep learning is gone. So confused why they'd kill clubs. If they want to add leaderboards, fine, knock yourself out. But why eliminate a beloved and valuable feature? Why not just leave it there for those who still want to use it?

I have a proposition for you and your friends. Why don't you join a club outside of Duo? I have one on Discord, we have groups learning Spanish, Italian, Russian and English. There's a bunch of Duo users who want to stay in touch after the clubs disappear. Now I'm transferring my members from The Spanish and Italian clubs on Duo. There are natives who help us learn the languages, we can write, talk, post photos, videos and recordings. If we want to keep in touch we have to find a way, don't we. It took me two years to create active Italian and Spanish clubs and now Duo is going to take it away? Well, we have a way out. Everyone studying the afore mentioned languages is welcome to join in. See you?

I totally agree! I joined DL only a few weeks ago, the most venefit were the clubs. The DL lessons themselves are pattern drill method, they might be good to get a grip but language learning means communication ans not repeating some very senseless sentences like “ The elephants are swimming in cooking oil” ( I only quote!) for the umpteenth time.

Clubs are even for beginners an excellent opportunity to practice the language, to get help and have fun and to learn the language.

DL will use a lot of users ;and money) because just translating will be boring after a while a learners won’t come back.

I vote to keep the clubs.. they really are a nice casual way to practice with other learners and to learn from them. Without a competitive vibe just fun and interactive. Also we've already made a lot of acquaintances and i think that's the saddest part of the whole thing. Relationships that have been slowly built with whole groups as a community.

I would prefer the clubs to remain too. The leader boards don't seem to offer any potential opportunities for language improvement - merely encourage you to accumulate as many points as possible.

Has anyone considered a general boycott of duolingo? Maybe organize a date (preferably on our before the 19th) and get the word out not to use it for 48 hours. The loss of 2 days worth of add revenue should get their attention. Giving the app a 1 star rating on the app store and google play would probably get their attention as well. Just some thoughts.

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

While I think it is an excellent idea tell people to reduce your daily effort to 10 XP and do 5 days of absolute minimum. Why.. those who have year long streaks usually wouldn't want to risk them. Just do 1 lesson and close the app before the ad appears

I know no one will see this comment because the thread is old, but DUOLINGO ignored everyone. And removed clubs anyways. I will now probably abandon my streak and the app as well. Great job Duo.

They are clearly a bunch of computer nerds who prefer interacting with themselves..The whole point of learning a language is to communicate with other people.. I have 635 day streak ONLY because the banter and interaction in the clubs kept me coming back and motivated..I'm sure another language learning tool will capitalise on their developers shortcomings and inability to respond to their members concerns...Come on Duo Listen to your members, or they'll be members no more and your advertising revenue will go elsewhere!!

I agree. The clubs are a fun way to practice using the language to actually communicate. HOWEVER, some clubs are just chitchatr in English. Perhaps the clubs could be redesigned so that the games and features were in the target language, not in English.

      April 25, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

Dear Kitt, in case your administrator does not stop people talking in English, - tell them - change clubs - create your own If you go for the last one , the club goes by your rules. A good example is At least one post per day Only the target language is permitted unless it is a translation question And post plenty of new ideas, questions etc We had a thread for each Spanish speaking country in the world, it was great

None still, and so, i would be devastated to lose them! That is such a noble idea, to have members gathered all around the world in a language club. JUSTICE FOR THE CLUBS! P.S. I don't even have access to see, join or start a club. Never did. I've been using Duolingo for over a month now.

There is not a club tab or option for me, either on the desktop site or within the app. And I am up to date on the app version (for Android). There are other Android Duolingo users who CAN see, join and start clubs, so it's not an Android compatibility issue.

Therefore, I am puzzled. Is this because with the recent version of the app, the club feature is being phased out over time?

Too bad, as I know some people who keep wanting to invite me to clubs by sending me invite codes, but they are useless to me. I'd love to participate. grumbles

I think it is stupid to remove our ability to collaborate and encourage and banter... It makes language learning fun... when clubs go bye-bye, so will a lot of nice people... I hate when you get used to and start to like something, someone has to "improve" it, making it more of a clumsy and awkward and uncomfortable experience. I stopped using Mondly because it just lacks the comradery and fun... now this... I hate trying to find new apps... (especially when I paid for this one... just lame...) I am disappointed...

I filled in the feedback form today and submitted it. I, too, am missing my club. I didn't realize that the "leaderboard" would just be a competition for points between people who were learning many different languages. After three days, I really miss Word Smash, Club Chat, etc. because I enjoyed completing those exercises AND reading the other responses. I felt like I actually knew some of my fellow club members based on their responses. Now I am in this horrible Leaderboard where it's just a competition for points. There is no educational value for us at all since everyone is learning different languages. I rallied the first few days just to see what would happen at the Silver level, but now that I realize it's no different than Bronze, I have no incentive to do more. How can I go back to my club?!!

Partly exercising is useful, but what is more important: I don't feel alone myself. My good friends with their kind, funny messages help to solve my solitude. If there will be no clubs, I will not have mind kind friends from all part of the world. How can I find my friends, and how will I speak with people, who do not know that six languages I understand?

It's a horrible thing to have the clubs go away. I'm in 3 well maintained clubs with a lot of discussion and activity. There are people studying for language exams getting help and feedback from others in the groups. I'm in a few other clubs that are not maintained but there are still a handful of us in each club still battling it out in points every week and we've been friends for a long time this way. The value of study as a group that can interact is that the study is better quality and is aimed at communication and actual language learning. The Leaderboard model inspires testing out of languages that people already know; it down grades the app to more of a game and takes away the community.

After following the new leader board nonsense that replaced the clubs for the last few weeks, I am scratching my head and wondering what it is Duo wanted to accomplish by eliminating the clubs. Mind you, despite being an avid Duolinguist I have not had good luck with any of my clubs. Once, I was even eliminated from a club where I was one of the only two members making sentences. I felt with the clubs we were at the mercy of the administrator who could throw us out without any reason whatsoever; at times, their actions might have been justified, but mostly it was a very non-transparent and unilateral decision. Wish there could have been clubs that one qualified with one's hard work. Anyway, wondering what advancing to the next level means as far as leaderboards? I'm now in the Sapphire league, competing senselessly against my fellow Duolinguists. Is there a benefit to this aside from supposedly spurring me on to use the site more and get more XP's?

      May 13, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/tolunayo

Advancing on leaderboards at the moment gives bragging rights at this moment. If the clubs go away and I am forced into a league I plan to ignore completely my involuntary participation in the league. I will do my daily classes and that is it. Clubs actually made me use Duolingo more. Now, that incentive is going away. We want more Interaction among users, not less. This is a short-sighted decision.

Hello everyone! As many of you, I was totally upset by this decision of Duolingo to close our clubs without any explanation. As this decision hurts me a lot, I decided to react in my own way: I uninstalled the application totally, but go on working from the website (it’s mobile version). Thus I don’t watch any ads any more and besides I don’t have any “health problems” ( the iPhone users will understand me). This is my way to boycott the program continuing enjoying it. However, it would be interesting to know the reason of this drastic change.

      May 21, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Athanology

I have done the same and I took a step further. I am not going to use neither the app nor the website. There are plenty other resources for learning a language out there. If clubs don’t return in the next month or so (which is not going to happen of course), I am going to delete my account.

      May 21, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Andresb_UY

      Clubs are not (totally) gone!

They are there as a private/secret corner to chat among us.

Start checking the first mark "Allow clubs" www.duolingo.com/settings/privacy

      (Refresh)

If that doesn't work try with an earlier version (I read over here Version 3.106.5 but didn't checked myself, I use another one even older)

And I assure you, clubs are there as usual, nothing changed.

      May 21, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/VeraSabada

There is no available version for iPhone allowing the clubs use. Some Android users still can access the clubs, but unfortunately it’s not my case. The access to clubs was already activated in my settings...

      May 21, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/tolunayo

I have not updated my iPhone version to the latest and it works just fine with the profile made private as indicated above. There are only a few members left in my club. Some Android users can only visit the club if they are summoned by someone in the club using @tag via the notifications. I guess they can downgrade their version to get away from that issue. However, eventually, server side infrastructure will be shutdown. We are currently ghosts in the system.

There is no reason not to have clubs with the leaderboards. I understand some clubs did not work but ours was great, along with a few native speakers that are hanging in our club (which we did the same in the reverse tree club).

If they had introduced leaderboards along with clubs we would have no problem but leaderboards lack one huge significant feature: Human interaction. What a loss!!!

We deserve the clubs. I don't understand the league idea. I am interacting with people who primarily are not interested in the language I am learning. I feel this was a very bad idea. Before, at least I was "competing" with fellow Spanish learners and some of us even became friendly because of the healthy competition. Now we are in different leagues because of activity levels. Can we have leagues and clubs and let the members choose which they want to enter?

After a couple of weeks of the Leaderboard, it seems completely pointless. Why would I care how many points people are earning in different languages to the one I'm learning? Conceivably having a language specific leaderboard might make sense to people who need numbers or competition to motivate them. But having a hodge podge of different languages all tumbling in the same barrel is just a waste of time. I may be dense.

      June 3, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/bri136137

I think that the point is that all kinds of people are involved. There are highly competitive people who measure themselves against the progress of others. There are also minimally competitive people who simple glace to see if they are among the average. There are people so focused on skill development that they pay attention to nothing but their own exercises. I'm come to accept that nothing in the tendencies of others precludes you from following your own path at your own pace. The important thing is that you compete against yourself, or at least against your ability level from the previous day, or the previous lesson. Perhaps there was a stepping stone to a later approach, where people motivated at similar levels are reorganized into language trees. Personally, I prefer that people be more regionally focused so they can organize Duolingo groups in their home towns. They change things up with sufficient frequency that I doubt that we'll have to wait long until the next approach is brought to fruition.

I don't take part in clubs but I feel with you. I mean what the hell...

Slightly off-topic, a couple of months ago they nerf the amount XP awarded through testing out, annoying who knows how many people doing that with their intent being specifically to eliminate the problems in club leader boards. That ruckus being barely silenced, they now want to kill the clubs as well. What the hell honestly.

      April 24, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Carmen807459

The issue wasn't the club leaderboard. It was the leagues, where there's 50 anonymous players whom you cannot interact with, that you're competing against to rise in ranks.

      April 24, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/milanezi

Ok. Club or league (never used either), that wasn't the point, the issue remains. They introduce updates to cater to a minority and as a consequence piss of the majority - that particular update also for a reason I didn't mentioned earlier, to promote LEARNING (or however they define grinding) instead of rapidly testing out. Now they kill one of the best ways to actually learn a language.

I have the impression that Duolingo has launched a big marketing campaign for clubs with the April update. So many people who didn't know clubs before ask how to join clubs. Maybe at the end of May the club members will no longer be a minority at all. That would really be a positive surprise.

Is there an announcement anywhere about why Duolingo have decided to axe clubs in favour of leagues? I can't find anything about it.

      April 27, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

@DrPappa in the April 2019 Update thread there are posts by helpfulduo that essentially say leaderboards are cheaper to run than clubs and that since in testing, they found new members were still willing to use Duolingo without a club option, they have decided to roll it out to everyone else.

      April 27, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

I don’t understand the “cheaper to run” part. It just means, clubs don’t generate advertisement money, while leaderboards do

      April 27, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

@antonmo. No idea either!! I assume it is easier for a computer program to allocate members into non-interactive lists of people than maintaining Clubs allowing people to choose where they go and who they speak to. But who am I to say? I have no idea how websites are created and maintained!!!

So are there adverts on leaderboards as well?

      April 27, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

For my part, we don't need a program to pick a club. Do it by list and description, like before

      April 27, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

@AnitaRRC - too easy Anita!! If you have something that works, like list and description of clubs, the next obvious step is to change it to something that doesn’t work as well!!

      April 27, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

@redsed indirectly, if you are encouraged to compete you do exercises and between them you see ads. if you start chatting with people, thats what you do mostly, and don’t generate as much ads.

      April 27, 2019

I really enjoyed the interaction and camaraderie that the clubs offered. I have noticed that in recent weeks they seemed to be having technical problems. I often couldn't get the club to display. Fortunately we have a tight club and most of us friended each other at the last minute. I was hoping that the Duolingo staff would make a formal statement about what is going on rather than leaving it up to speculation. Come on Duolingo, what's up?

Nop. (yet?) Leaderboards start as used to do it in clubs, 0:00 UTC. SO, there's no rush.

At the moment we can switch between clubs or leaderboards in www.duolingo/settings/privacy and/or with a previous version, but i think in May 20 is a farewell

Although I haven't given up my hope yet. For all who are interested in continuing their clubs: A good compromise out of all the different solutions I tried in the last days is the platform slack. I have now set up my German Duolingo Club (English / German) there. Why is the platform good? It allows threads unlike many other platforms (like Threema, which I would have preferred for privacy reasons), because every chat platform gets very confusing when there are no threads. All you have to do when registering is enter your email address and no phone number. You can disable all notifications and I have not seen any ads around so far. There are short messages and you can edit your entries and you can restrict club access. The only requirement for an invitation is an email address, which is the only negative point I've discovered so far.

      April 29, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

I tried slack, but I could not see it was threaded. It looked like discord. I used Microsoft Teams instead

      April 29, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Daniel730298

You have to create your own thread or channel structure in slack. Then the discussions are always in one box which is called a channel

      April 29, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/antonmo

ah ok, thanks for clarifying. yeah, I think users are reluctant to create whole channels.

      April 29, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Daniel730298

Users are also reluctant to leave Duolingo clubs as they still seem to hope for the best.

      April 29, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed

@Daniel730298 - Agree. The other problem is that with Duolingo clubs it is easy to switch between a lesson tab and club tab within the same app on your phone. Anything else requires coming out of the Duolingo app and then logging in to something different.

      Hello,

      I have up-voted your thread.

Clubs do IMHO not really work with the "find me a random club" thing which was introduced since the Android V3.77.5 app version or were multiple people were thrown into "social clubs" sharing separate languages:

      https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/26991732/Android-Clubs-WARNING-New-App-Version-V3-77-5-from-04-13-2018-removes-many-useful-club-functions

The V3.72.2 Android version had the "club list" before and allowed the club admin to set a club title and description which every member could read, especially on the "club list".

That there is no separate "club exchange" sub forum on the Duolingo discussions is another problem, to share and find a club for someone from the same country or city or interests (e.g hobbies).

Basically a club admin had to set a club to PRIVATE as random people joined PUBLIC clubs which the "find me a random club" (feature coming over from IOS) situation did not really improve.

All those missing join filters when setting up a club were another problem.....

      Quote: Save the clubs

IMHO you cannot save the clubs in the code state as they are right now.

And they are not available on the website :-(

The only real option is to make PRIVATE clubs but we need to have a place to share clubs without someone being instantly downvoted when he/she posts about it in the normal language forums.

What I hear that random people are put onto a "League" XP competition board who may not share the same language, interests or country/city location sounds also quite weird to me...

Yes, clubs according to the common interests, common native language or even peers were much better. Clubs moderated officially could be much more effective. They need improvements for sure. But there's nothing in their place. I cannot understand the different policy between the web and the mobile version, or even between different OS! It seems to me that they test a version before introduce it to all, but if it is do, there is no common ground to start from.

I'll be honest, I don't understand clubs. I'm sure I'm not using them to the max, but I don't see the value at this time. Maybe it's me, or maybe it's the specific club I'm in, but they don't feel as useful as other portions of Duo. I get a "hello" from new members and a notification that someone passed me in XP, but that's about it. Maybe there's a good explanation somewhere about how to use them, but I haven't found that yet either.

Hi Honigdachs, We also know your experience with clubs. That's why we've started a club where we practice grammar, learn new words and idioms and only communicate English. If you do not actively participate, you have to go again. To get the club, we're moving to another platform and have a lot of fun there. If this type of club suits you, you're welcome to come to us. The club code at Duolingo is CBYCND. We expect you to introduce yourself so that we know who we are talking to in the future.

It absorbs me a lot of energy each week, but I think this try bis worthwhile, as it helps many people to have progress in language learning. This petition is trying to show that many learners want clubs come back. And I am proud and touched from the support of the learners do far. But a lot of learners are disappointed because Duolingo doesn't listen.

well said!! PLEASE keep the clubs!!!

they have such a force and a strong function in bringing people back to Duolingo on a longer term as they allow us to create communities and make people want to come back and keep progressing. their bonding element should not be underestimated, and they are a great platform for boosting conversations and conversation skills of slightly more advanced learners which differentiate Duolingo from any other language learning program or app...!

why give up this unique feature of Duolingo and loose so many loyal followers of the app and mission!

my request does not question leaderboards which fulfill their own purpose in offering people a platform where they can compete and measure up their learning efforts against each other. this might be helpful especially in the first stage of learning a new language.

but leaderbords can n e v e r replace or substitute CLUBS and the motivation and encouragement clubs generate with people in wanting to return to Duolingo time and again.

I bought an older iPad and loaded Duolingo. There were the clubs, right where I left them. All the features are the same. The pad was not able to load the latest version of Duolingo, but gave the option to load an older one. And, as you know, the latest version now displays the members that you're following, which are generally from club associations. The club that I was in had some competitive members, but they weren't interested in chat comments. So I've not really lost anything.

I need help with this too. Can someone find any good French/German/Russian clubs before they're gone forever?

If the admin of your club isn't active themselves and being proactive then you will have a bad experience with clubs.

Duo wants to replace the clubs, but we shall follow our friends. So after some time, there will be a pay version of clubs.

I agree that you can learn much more in club than doing Duolingo lessons especially than you have to only repeat everything and you don't understand how the language works like only from repeating the same sentences. I memorize the sentences but I still sometimes don't understand why it should be written this way and couldn't be written differently. Also the club chats were a good place to show what you have learned and improve your language skills. I just hope that clubs won't be replaced.

I'm sorry but what is happening to the clubs. I can see that they're supposedly being deleted but what happens after that? Why is everyone panicking?

Seems you have never been in an active club, have you? It took me two years of careful selection to create decent Italian and Spanish clubs, with members chatting, exchanging opinions etc. We sort of made friends with one another. Now they are going to take them away! Fortunately, I have managed to transfer some of them to a club outside Duo, so we are not going to lose contact.

I am in a great Welsh Club... three of us chat regularly in Welsh, I really will miss it if it closes.

I am in a Romanian club where someone is so way ahead of the others every week, and no one stops to chat, so I won't mind losing that. Especially since there are loads of people with 0XP who don't seem to do anything. Perhaps if you could pay lingots to stay in a club you don't join in with it may mean these people leave?

I have just joined a new Spanish Club which has announced if I don't get 300XP by the end of the week I'll be chucked off. Only started the language today. I joined with a friend from Welsh Club. Hope we are both chucked off into the same club!

But I don't really want to come out of the Welsh one as I enjoy the chat in the language.

Is there any other language learning app that lets me compare my own progress to the progress of my friends and shows me how much everyone did per week? We used to have a club for that but seems to be no longer possible with the clubs being gone. We would switch right away if there's another app that would allow us to do that.

      May 17, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/AnitaRRC

The clubs are Not about comparing points, they are about communication with other learners. They are for learning other cultures, regional differences in the target language and about helping each other.

I understand that this is what they were generally for. I just wanted to explain how we were using the club and how this is no longer possible with the leaderboards instead, because I only see random people there.

Thanks @Buddybarnsfarm. We are going to give the Facebook group a go - I think you have already joined us there?! If so, we look forward to learning with you.

A question, someone said discord is a video gamers chat app. Is that correct?

      May 20, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Andresb_UY

That is correct. Adapted/adopted for languages it's even better.

However, I still can see all clubs. I don't know if it's a question of versions or just the privacy setting, or I will say best: www.duolingo.com/settings/privacy

      • "Allow clubs"

That way will be fewer people directed (randomly) into clubs but at least those who arrive will be searching for them.

I think I like that way, really like it, thought.

Clubs were fun ! You could interact with other similar language students. Put captions to pictures invite friends to post. Make friends. Leaderboards do none of this and changes each week. I for one could care less about being in a gold league or watching people rack up points in obscure languages with no interaction. Duo please,,,por favor Bring back clubs

Clubs are pretty stupid tbh. They have little practical value and very few people actually use them. There is also ZERO feedback on anything you post in a club.

      April 26, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/rsuzu474

That depends on the club. My club is like that too but a lot of people tend to communicate with each other in other clubs. I might try to join them as soon as possible.

      April 26, 2019

      https://www.duolingo.com/profile/redsed
