You should totally learn japanese it is a great language :D
Japanese, what's that?
Japanese is a language spoken in Japan. You might know why it is called Japanese because the place where it is originally spoken in is called Japan. Also if any of you watch anime some of the anime's spoke the language Japanese :P WOOOOHOOOOO ANIMEEEEEEE :D
Now I know you must be joking, because they clearly speak English when I watch One Piece.
Are you sure you aren't thinking of England? It is an island country. You might have heard of it before, if you've read Harry Potter.
Some anime speak english and some anime speak Japanese.Such as an anime in Japanese is Itakiss. Very Good Show btw :P
I'd love to but I those 2 billion kanji... I have other stuff to do as well and that would take me a life time
It ain't the kanji that kills you -- it's the billion readings of kanji. But if it's fun (and it is!) then it doesn't matter how much time you spend on it. I love kanji, myself, but I'm a Chinese teacher. 8^)
To be fair, there's only around three or four hundred unique readings for kanji, not billions. Even if you account for pitch accent, it's only around 1200 to 1500 unique sound combinations. The tricky part is figuring out which readings match up with which kanji and selecting the appropriate reading for a given word.
Far from simple, but not quite as bad as it might seem when you encounter your first kanji with ten different readings and start to question your own sanity for choosing this language of your own free will.
Yes, true. Japanese is a spoken language which picks up words readily from other languages, including Chinese, and the kanji represent the spoken language (mostly). I think if you go for the spoken language and learn the kanji as part of the means for representing it then it's not so daunting.
Besides, kanji are endlessly fascinating.
