A language experiment
I just came across this interesting post by Lenkvist in the English discussion forum. https://www.duolingo.com/comment/3194505
Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have designed this quiz which is a part of the project to build an algorithm for recognizing a person's English dialect as well as predicting her/his native language.
I am really interested to see how this quiz works for native Hindi speakers. Would you like to take the quiz and post your answers in text of picture format?
This was my result!
Surprising to know that it listed Portuguese in the guesses for native languages, which I am learning. Moreover, our dialect results are same. The algorithm seems pretty consistent. (atleast for native Hindi speakers)
It guessed one of my native languages right : English. The dialects are the same as jitengore's and akshay9999's, except that I have 'South African' instead if English. Apparently, my second native language, Tulu, which I speak better than Hindi, doesn't seem to be present at all among the native language options that you can select. Probably because it's quite a minor language.
Our top three guesses for your English dialect:
1. English (UK)
2. Irish (Southern)
