New design does not work well on older versions of iPad
Some things don't show at all: For example, I just encountered a "fill in the word" item, where no words were shown to choose from and it would not allow me to use the keyboard to type in one that I might randomly guess at (since there was also no audio for that example). The only way to move on was to hit "skip", which while it did show me what answer Duolingo wanted, still did not give me any way to enter that when the item kept returning for me to get it right in order to complete the lesson. There was no solution other than for me to end the session unfinished, thereby failing to count all the work I had gotten correct in that lesson.
In other cases, where words ARE shown to select from, sometimes they take up more space than is visible (the bottom row is hidden by the keyboard). There is no way to reduce the visual keypad size on my iPad to accommodate this new design - switching from landscape to portrait layout on the device does not resolve the problem.
is there any "toggle keyboard" button on IOS so you can switch to typing instead of tapping on your IPad?
Would you do that with the internal onscreen keyboard if you could (omitting the DL hinted on-screen letters)?
Sorry, I just know how the Android mobile app works on KOPlayer/Bluestacks (Android emulator)...
I am also experiencing the same problem and am finding that I am unable to do my lessons. Is there an answer for this problem?
I have found no solution yet. I only find work arounds to maintain my streak. Timed tests by skipping those questions I can not answer, tiny cards and stories are the only ways I can do lessons. Or download the app.
I am a Japanese studying Italian by English. Following to the recent display modification, the fill-in selection quiz indicates no choice, and does not accept any Sammy answer. Just like as said, only way to forwar is to skip the quiz. This situation does not let me complete the lesson. Please kindly re-set the display modification to the previous one.
