IN SEARCH OF CONTRIBUTORS (FRENCH FOR GREEK SPEAKERS).
There is a great need for french courses, as the current educational system of Greece does not cover adequately second language demands. If anyone is willing to apply, please comment below and contact me. I have already submitted several applications, but there seems to be no response. Thank you a priori.
I have applied for both FR <- GR and GR <- FR courses, but that was a couple of years ago, so I guess it would be a good idea to apply again.
By the way, I am Greek and I study French Language and Literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. What's your background?
What a FABULOUS discussion. Thank you to both Lemoreux and panagiotis_ts .
Can I also point out https://incubator.duolingo.com/ , as the place to put in your applications. Though note, as also indicated in this discussion, you may not receive a response for some time.
If you are fluent in Greek and English, I would like to recommend to those that are interested in opening a new course for Greek speakers, or for other languages to learning Greek, could you put in an application to the course for Greek Speakers learning English.
We are very close to open a substantial new course development for learning English from Greek, and are in a position to accept some new applicants to address this. This experience of developing a new tree will be very useful skills to have, for when Duolingo makes the decision to open a brand new course, for example between Greek and French.
We look forward to reading your applications.
It's great to hear that a new English course for Greek speakers is under construction. I guess this will facilitate the transition to a completely CEFR-aligned course conforming to the new duolingo standards.
However, because of my long experience in answering questions concerning Greek grammatical phenomena and vocabulary on the forum, I would feel more at ease contributing to the Greek course for English speakers rather than the reverse one.
Do you think that my contribution to the Greek course would be beneficial at this moment? Or should I stick to the English course for Greek speakers, while waiting for duolingo to give the green light to the French course for Greek speakers, or the Greek course for French speakers?
I will definitely submit my applications for all of these courses soon. Thanks a lot for your encouragement! :-)
Panagiotis your great contributions have not gone unnoticed. It's always a relief to see you've commented because we know it's always knowledgeable and clear. Please take up our request to join the team.
Oh - also, on an additional subject, for many courses, it is recommended if you are keen to contribute, to :
- It can be advantageous to be active in the forums, in kindly assisting people with their language and other questions, when you have the knowledge to do so. This is both in the Discussion forums and in the Sentence Discussions.
- It can be good to also show your proficiency with engaging with and using Duolingo resources. Such as progressing through another language course, or for an established course, progressing through that course.
- Also it can be advantageous to show your proficiency by creating resources that could be useful for other learners.
- Sometimes holding a streak can be taken into consideration. Mostly from the point of view of showing consistence and a continued interest in checking in on Duolingo on a daily basis.
Though for each team, it is an individual choice, and none of the points above may be taken into consideration. As for a well functioning team a diversity of skills are beneficial that different members excel in. And some of these may be outside Duolingo or even of language learning.
As a course contributor, I continue to learn new skills and constantly am inspired by the Duolingo community, both in public and especially behind the scenes. I consider it is one of the best journeys I have been on, and continue to look forward to it every day.

edited: this post, and its associated links, shows an interesting insight into what is also happening for development of all courses, and will be relevant for any new course development.
Especially the information in the blog, that gives an indication of some of criteria for course design.
ok - lets try starting this from another front.
Can we try to start to create some of the key resouces that would be appropriate for this course. Which would assist in course development, and would be of value for learners generally, and in this public environment.
Thank you for your patience with me as I work out how to suggest structuring this. And if anyone else wishes to take the lead, I would appreciate it.
