My favorite sample word using 問 ...

問うに落ちず語るに落ちる
(とうにおちずかたるにおちる)

This word/expression/run-on sentence means "to keep a secret when asked about it, but let it slip inadvertently when chatting on another occasion" The kanji 落 means drop or fall. 落ちる is the verb "to fall", but it also has many figuritive uses like "to confess" or "to let slip" or "to fail". 落ちず is the Zu-form of 落ちる. This form means “without doing (verb).” And 語る is the verb "to talk about, to recite, to speak of, to tell".

So you don't spill the beans when you are asked directly, but you screw up and let it drop when you are talking about something else. Whoops! それは確かに問題です。

If you ever have the opportunity to use this word in casual conversation, let me know. :-) I love learning Japanese.

Thank you for the Kanji of the Day posts! They really help learning easy. I saw this kanji on a website once and was curious what it meant, but I closed the tab and couldn't figure out a way to search it up. Now I know what it means. ありがとうございます !

Easy way to remember it is that 聞く is to ask. It's very similar visually to 問.
