Chinese characters gone!

I recently switched from iPhone to Android. I have installed and logged into Duolingo but noticed a couple of changes, the most significant being that suddenly I can't input Chinese characters anymore and fully rely on the word bank. I have installed pinyin input method and it works well on Whatsapp - but I have no option to switching to pinyin keyboard in Duolingo. Any advise?

I don't think this is available in the Android app. You need to use the web version of duolingo in your android web browser instead.

Look at all your options, Memrise, Chineseskill, HelloChinese, Lingodeer (try the free offering)...

BTW: China uses WeChat, and English is the business language of the world.

Yes I'll do that - I already use WeChat anyway...

This is the English forum, not everyone here studies Chinese ... If you edit your post (no need to make a new one) and put it in the Troubleshooting Chinese forum someone that shares/has shared your experience may be able to help you.

Note: I haven't updated my Android Duolingo App yet.

IMHO: When you are able to input text, you should be able to change to any language. I just tried it on my Android phone. If you need more help, post a question to the pinyin input app that you are using. They should know.

BTW: You are in the Chinese Forum, but you might get a better response in the Troubleshooting Forum.

Thanks Ed Chan, I'll repost in the Troubleshooting Forum: the problem is that when it comes to translating from English into Chinese, I only get the word bank, not even the option to type it in pinyin...

I had to use the strengthen exercise to get the chance to input English text, but I tried pinyin input anyway. I only got one chance to input English text in the whole exercise.

Interesting thanks! Is that the little bell bar at the bottom right of the screen? Also, I did have the option of inputting pinyin on my iPhone at some point and you seem to suggest that I might have to do it again? I'll try it out for a little longer and see what happens. Android also switched me from gems to lingots

I got a screen that says, "Translate this sentence (Chinese Characters)" So I able to input English text, and I tried pinyin input for my test. I was NEVER asked to input Chinese text.

Interesting - I got used to just using pinyin...

You have the right idea, writing is very important. Even if Duolingo doesn't offer it, seek it out (make it happen).
