Lost 338 day streak...
So, a week ago I lost my longest ever streak. I've been on Duolingo for a few years now, but never reached a three digit streak before. The truth is it was such a silly way to lose it. I was on holiday and my daily schedule was just messed up:(
I'm still very proud of myself. I managed to make language learning a daily habit- just a part of my bedtime routine, like brushing my teeth. I've advanced so much and learned a lot. On previous times, when I lost a streak of over fifty, I stopped for a day or two before I could start over. Now, the moment I saw that dreadful 0, I had to make it a 1.
I'm a bit disappointed I didn't reach the 365, but hey, next time!
I feel your pain! Seriously. A slow connection in Italy left my xp floating and cost me my actual streak. But this is about you. So start again with determination, it's worth it. My very best to you, you have much to be proud of.
Ouch. I hate when that happens!!!!
Edit: Not that it has happened to me, it just sounds awful.
Edit: I mean, I have had a slow conection before, but I didn't loose my streak over it... Probobly my streak is never long enough for that to happen.
Edit: I hope I can get a longer streak... I seem to be stuck at seven days. Could someone give me some tips?
Edit: Why are there SO many edits?!
Uh, it's a pity that you lost a 362 days streak 491 days ago; it could have been an 854+ days streak by now.
I know exactly how you feel. Last summer, due to a vacation, I lost my 664 day streak. I felt really disappointed at first, but after a while it started to feel kind of liberating. I still log in almost every day to go through some sets of exercises (sometimes 2, sometimes 20) but I don't feel compelled and obliged any more.
Think of it as an educational opportunity on how to deal with attachments and loss .
Congratulations! You now have:
1) A long streak you can be proud of, and 2) The freedom that comes from no longer being tied to that streak.
The important thing is establishing a good habit and making it part of your life. You've done that! You don't need a streak counter to keep brushing your teeth, and you just proved that you don't need a streak counter to keep doing DL, either.
From now on, you can do DL because it's a worthwhile thing to do. If something legitimately prevents you from doing it one day or another, you can shrug that off and keep going.
Last year I walked away from a 628 day streak when I went on vacation, and it was like setting aside a burden. I started doing DL again when I returned, and my streak is back up near 300, but I'll probably walk away from it again this summer.
Owning a streak is great. Having it not own you is even better.
exactly, people focus on something without realising they achieved something greater. Well done
It's ok! The important is that you didn't miss the things you learnt and you still an inspiration for all of us <3
You did a great work! Having such a large streak is very impresive! I understand your disapointment. But i am sure you can do it! Keep the good job!
OMG! Even the fact that you got to a 338 streak is INSANE. I feel like such a noob next to you, my highest ever streak has been something like 26. WELL DONE!
Oof, that's a big streak to lose.
But hey, look at it this way. The main reason for the streak is to encourage you to practice daily to ensure you can fully absorb the language(s) you're trying to learn.
Losing a 338 day streak and having the motivation and dedication to continue learning daily starting from day 1 again is an even bigger achievement than getting to day 339 could ever be.
No worry dude! After all, the main point IS to learn language, and I'm pretty sure you're definitely doing it right :)
You could have used free plus trial to get it back. They say you get a streak repair, but I don't know how that works.
I find that they get you into the habit of learning. Look at me. I'd hate to lose my streak. So I log on every day. Heck - I'd probably have a mental breakdown if I lost it.
EDIT: I see your point...
For the streak repair you just have to buy it before your streak ends(our just keep one in stock). Then if you don't practice that day your streak won't end. Also it will it will send you a little notification that will clarify that it used the streak repair to keep your streak. I hope this helps!
So theoretically, I could do the free trial and get a streak repair to hold in stock. But will it stay after the trial period ends?
what you're describing is the streak freeze you don't need duolingo plus for that anyone can buy one. What streak repair does from what i understand of it is that you can apparently repair your streak after it was actually lost within 1 or 2 days.
Ya I’ve only gotten a 7 day steak and so far that’s my highest!! You are so lucky!
Ouch, that always sucks; I'm sorry my friend... You see, I always find it useful to cheat my way out and constantly buy the streak freeze.
I think one should not lose a streak because of going on holiday. That's why there are holidays for a person to have a break. I think that there should be an exception of once or twice a year for a student to be able to " buy " a certain amount of days provided he has the ingots to pay for them.
I feel your pain and seriously sympathize! Last December I was going on a boat for a few days where I'd been told there was no wifi and I came on this forum asking for advice because I really didn't want to lose my 500 day streak as I find it a very helpful tool to stay motivated to do this every day. Nobody offered any usable suggestions for how I could make it work except having someone do it for me. So, I had a plan for my daughter in law to do my Duo for me but then I was given free wifi when I was on the boat. For my good luck and because I am sad for you I am giving you 4 lingots. Keep going - you will have your streak back soon!
my sister lost her streak and saved it by getting duolingo plus, may be an option!
It says that you lost your last streak 9 days ago. And it was only a 1 day streak. But, I must say, you should be proud of yourself! There is always a next time!
don't gıve a care a lot these strikes just try to have fun and when you fall rise up with vengeance
Wow! that's rough. I'm new @ duolingo, (just started yesterday) but I hope I could get that far!!!!
Didn't you have a streak freeze? or was it two days you missed. my streak is still intact from the first day i started duolingo, there has been a period a year ago or so when i just logged in daily to buy a new streak freeze, but still.
EDIT: judging by my account creation date i have used 27 streak freezes since i joined. cause since the day i joined (including the day i joined and including today (as i've reached my goal today already)) it has been 524 days and my streak is 497 so 524-497=27
Sorry to hear that. Sometimes circumstances intervene. I've been very lucky to have patient supportive people around me. Keep going, friend.
Yeah I hey, it's such a bummer when that happens. I understand you completely. I also streak not too long ago, it's not as high as yours as I am kind of new. But yooh I didn't feel good about it.
well done, i don't think i will ever be able to get that far. you should be proud for getting to that number. Maybe try setting reminders and notifications.
It doesn't matter. You already got your 300 day streak. I mean, thats also really cool.
Hey you can do it. It's about being motivated and being regular. For me is something that I must do, no matter what haha and now it's like you said, a daily habit, it's part of my day routine. Sometimes people look at me like a crazy person because I say that l have to practice here, but in the end what matters is the goal that you propose yourself and keep going. I would die if I lost my streak hahaha. Good luck and do not give up, you can do it! :)
If you go to the shop you can buy a streak freeze for some lingots and that way you will always have a day in reserve....
Have a few lingots from me I just 'lost' a 339 day streak, so we are in a similar position. Kind of strange everything else in Duo works perfectly except for streaks. The answer lies in the $$$ me thinks...
