Well-Known Arabic Sayings 2#
Every Rose has its thorns" - Every good thing has its negatives.
That who dug a pit for his brother, fell in it" - Who tried to do bad to a someone, something bad happened to them.
Not all that glitters is gold" - I think this is an English saying too, meaning, not all that looks good is good (not all who act good are good).
Tell me who you friend, I tell you who you are" - Make good friends, for people judge from those who you hang out with, not with who you are.
Iron with Iron works" - Similarly to the English saying "Diamonds cut diamonds", to beat something really strong, you must become strong.
Don't say beans till they are in the bag" - Don't say you have something, till you actually have it.
*(من كان بيته من زجاج، لا يرشق الناس بالحجارة) -: "That who has a house made of glass, never throws stones at people" - Don't do bad things to others, especially when you are vulnerable to it yourself, for it will be easy revenge.
*(العلم نور) -: "Knowledge is light" - Probably one of the most well-known, meaning, knowledge lights up your way, when you neglect facts you can't see; you don't understand, and knowledge is your light. (very relatable to Duo in fact)
*(الصبر مفتاح الفرج) -: "Patience is the key to resolutions" - This one is quite popular, patience is the key to a good result so say someone was ill, if they are patient, they will become better and get a good result in the end. (if you don't rush learning a language and be patient, then you'll get good results, eh?)
*(العلم في الصغر كالنقش على الحجر) -: "Knowledge when young is like engravings on a stone" - This one is probably a favourite; meaning, it is easier to learn when you are younger, for knowledge at a young age, is like engravings on a stone which cannot be rubbed out. Simply: take the chance to learn whilst you are young, for the knowledge you will earn, will last forever... ;p
*Thanks for reading my 3rd Arabic post of today (which I made whilst watching a huge fire outta my window... on my birthday? Certainly not a coincidence!). Any other sayings, generally - doesn't have to be Arabic, feel free to write them below... Have a lovely (flamin' here) rest-of-what's-left-of-today? :3
A very nice collection. Thank you for this post.
Just a tiny correction to the second saying. The word:
(the word ends with a nunation on the letter "ة", and not the letter "ا")
Keep up your great lesson series.
I want to correct a few mistakes:
1- You have a typo in (من حفر حفرةً ... ).
2- A better way of saying (قل لي من صاحبك، أقول لك من تكون ) is (قل لي من تصاحب أقل لك من أنت).
3- You missed the Tanween in
Keep it up, I am following your posts and it's amazing!
1 - كشفتوني يا اصدقاء ;p - I will edit that
2 - Thanks, I was trying to remember it off the top of my head
3 - My keyboard doesn't print tanween and vowels for some reason but good spot ;)
Thanks for the proof -reading, Lingots for you, catch em! ;p
Thanks for the post! I have actually heard the “Tell me who your friends are” quote before which is also one of my favorite quotes.
Stay safe from that fire!
Wow we seem to share similar opinions ;)
It's in the park near my house, lol it's been burning for a while now it's big! ;p I've been hearing helicopters for hours now, maybe London's burning? :D Do you know that song Andres? ;)
I actually have never heard that song before.
My cousin recently got married and moved to London with her husband. I have always wanted to visit that city.
@_@ c'mon it's a classic nursery song! :3 I don't live there lol I'm not rich enough tbh ;p I've been there a few times tho (Spain must be better)
But good job, and happy bday
(من كان بيته من زجاج، لا يرشق الناس بالحجارة) <- I have a book of sayings, but it says it like this for some reason, so I copied it :3 I think they make it like that for effect or something ;) thanks (you caught me out on the first one tho)
Wow three post in one day! AWESOME! Don't have any Arabic words in this post but other's I already did.
Up voting like always. :3
Why don't you post stuff Joseph? I never really get to upvote your stuff... Do you know any other languages you can help teach? Even English you know :)
Well I think you are better than me at English, but I can always teach you french. :3
You know French? I know a little bit (just the basics)... it would be nice if you made some posts ;)
