Vamos praticar (valendo lingots)?
hi.. my name is maycon, I have 16 years old ..... and all days is very, very boring for me, the morning, I will to school see my friends but it's never liked ( this is one secret confission) after i'm going to home to study more, one big love for music. I am violinist and trumpetist, 2 hours for pratice and 2 hours for theoretical the afternon, after, go to class for Enem
desculpa..... deve ta muito errado kskssksk mas eu tentei
Hi, Maycon. Nice to meet you! Oh, wow, you have a very busy day. So, are you a musician? That's really nice. You practice a lot. Are you finishing high school this year or you're taking the ENEM exam for practice? Don't be sorry. We're all learners here. Yes, there are mistakes, but no doubts I have lots too. If you accept a recommendation, I would say: Study the verb tenses.
Thanks for your comment... You're brave.
Maycon parabéns pelo esforço e por tentar escrever algo mesmo sabendo que teria erros. Para além da correção do Herick tem alguns pontos que acho importante corrigir.
Você escreveu 'all days is' o que não é consistente em número, deveria ser 'all days are' ou 'all day is'; 'I go to school TO see my friends' 'after I go (back) home to study more' 'I am A violinist and A trumpeter' '2 hours OF...' 'theoretical IN the afternoon'
Continue se esforçando que você chega lá :)
Hi, my name is Fausto. I'm 63 years old...too olld, but happy. I'm learning English because i nedd occupy myself. Is dificult, but i am excited . This is oportunity very nice. Today i have listen to series in English and read texts to help me with writing. Ihave been 79 days at Duolingo . I'm happy. I understand a few words. I will get there. Thanks a lot
Since my day just started (9:15am now), I'm going to write about yesterday. I woke up early, took my breakfast and went to work. When I was in my way back to home, I decided to pull over in the middle of the town to buy some food at the bakery. When I got home I just changed my clothes and went for a run. Back to my home, I ended the day by making dinner.
You're welcome, we're here to help each other.
Yes... The reason is that when we're running we can only focus on pain (lol). I am kidding, the feeling is really good (not so much in this hot weather, but) and it help us to focus on the right things (not only on problems as usual).
Good. For now, I am just studying. I am finishing my degree in Psychology this year.
Yes, I am. Thank you! :) Good... BTW, next semester I'm taking an "economics" subject and everyone is freaking out already, haha. I guess many people in this area are afraid of numbers. How ironic. We're not afraid to deal with human beings that are most of the times unpredictable, but we're afraid of numbers.
Really? Oh, thank you... It's good to read this. Well... I've been studying hard for a few months (almost three months here on Duolingo), but my story is very long. I've always studied at home and in the past I used to study using my cousin's CDs from her english course, musics, books. Unfortunately I spent a lot of years without studying (more than 5 years, I think), without motivation and self confidence... But I didn't stop practicing in this period. I know that because I didn't forget what I learned. But my English is still a work in progress... What about you?
Numbers can be scary sometimes, but you look like a very smart student, I bet you're going to kill it. About my english, I've been studying for a long time, but I also spent a time off. Lack of motivation is really a issue, huh ?
I couldn't reply your last message, (I think we can't reply more than that) so I'm replying this one. It was nice to meet you anyway, Daniela. Have a nice day.
Hi, Ed. Are you sure that your day has 24 hours just like mine? lol I like riding a bicycle, but I don't have one (feels bad). You study lots of languages at the same time, congrats. I love playing videogames, haha. What do you usually play on the PS4? Yes, here we are, and thanks for being here.
Hello Dani, similar routine, huh? Lol For me, there is nothing better than going to work by bike. And I love to learn any languages, I wish I had time to study languages only, but I study for contests (I'm a "concurseiro") and it spends a lot of time in my day, about 5 hours. Right now I was not studying to the contents, but I came back!
I usually play Spiderman, Fifa, God of war, Mortal Kombat, Uncharted, Call of duty, and many others lol
Without even notice you gave me the idea to my next post: The preposition "by". Thanks for that, haha.
I have a couple questions: How long have you been learning all these languages? What was the first one you started to learn? Oh boy, 5 hours... That's a lot. Contests? You've just taught me this word. Thanks.
Oh, good games! I want to play Spiderman, I heard it's a really good game. On my last vacations I played "Detroit: Become human" on the PS4 and I really liked this game. It's an adventure game that has no game over... So, if you make a decision and the character dies, the game continues without them. There are so many possibilities.
In fact, I currently only studying three languages, English, Japanese and French, with more emphasis on English, because I have to study other subjects, so I cannot study languages for the time I wanted.
I study English for many years (since I was 15, and I'm 37 years old right now), but I spent many years without studying deeply. Therefore, my English is still in progress. The other languages I started shortly, Spanish was there 2 or 3 years ago, French for less than 6 months and Japanese one month ago.
I can't talk about the game "Detroit" because I never played it. But I recommend Spider and Uncharted 4! both are awesome!
Contests!!! This life is really tiring because you've to study a lot of time in your day, but in the end, it offsets, because your salary improves a lot! I'm preparing for the "tax area" that pays very well, with salaries around 20 thousand reais. Do you think it's worth it? lol
"Only"? You study three languages, dude, that's huge! I understand. Is it English the one you like to study the most? If it's not, what is your favorite? What is the hardest? Sorry for all these questions, but I'm curious. You've been studying english for a very long time... And you have a pretty good english... Your writing and vocabulary are amazing.
Wow... I know that feeling 'cause I spent a lot of years without studying either. I have another question: Is it easier to learn another languages after the first one?
So I recommend you "Detroit" for sure. I hope I have the opportunity to play at least one of the games you recommended. BTW, what is your favorite one?
I can see it. I think it's worth it if you like this area. It's good to have a good salary, but... Well, there is a quote that I like very much "If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life". BTW, good luck... Your efforts will pay off in the future.
Hey! Fine, and you?
That's good. It's good to practice every day when you're learning a new language. I believe it too... Our english is a work in progress. So, you had to work yesterday. What do you do? (your occupation)
Well, if you allow me, I would say: Study the present continuous tense. Some words in your sentence like "study" "learn" "speak" need to add an "ing" in the end of the verb to indicate that the action is happening now.
Thanks for your comment.
Hi everyone! So today, my day started at 7:00am. First of all, i made my bed and clean my bedroom, next i went to the bathroom take a shower and then i ate breakfast. After i go out to make some business, because i'm self-employee. But now here (in Angola) are 1:47pm, times for lunch and i go back to home to eat lunch.
I try, and hope you to correct me because there is a lot.
Hello, Vlado. You work all day on saturday too? What do you do as a self-employee? Oh, you live in Angola. Are you native, or...? Thanks for your comment. I don't have much to say, just take a look to the verb tenses on your sentence. But most of them are correct.
PS: We usually go back home, you don't need to use "to".
Hi, nice to meet you, Junior. Wow, studying all day long. Are you on high school? It's good that you like it or it could be a nightmare, haha. When you say "I like to play ball" do you intend to say "I like to play soccer" or are you talking about another sport?
Thanks for your comment, Junior.
Hello everybody,my name is Matheus,I am 15 years old,my favorite day of all days in the week is today, because I will go out with my friends, some of they are too learning English like me,so we can have fun and practice English at the same time, that's so good for me. Espero que tenha escrito tudo certo,se tiver algo de errado por favor me corrijam.
Hi, Matheus, nice to see you here.
That's good. I would say that my favorite day is Sunday, but I was thinking... After Sunday, we have Monday, so... I don't like it anymore . LOL. So my favorite day is today too, because tomorrow it's Sunday, so I can sleep a lot and I don't need to go out to college or gym, I can just relax.
It's good to have friends to practice the language you're learning, it helps you improve a lot.
I liked your writing. Just a point: "Some of them are learning english just like me"
Hi Daniela, let`s start to speak about my day today. Today is Saturday, so I sleep a little more. All days a week I woke up at 06:45am, and today I woke up at 09:30am and I am so happy because that. I take a medicine and I need to stand up for 30 minutes. During this time I did some lessons the English. I went to the supermarket buy some things for lunch and I paid some bills. I left my daughter in the church and when returned I went to cut the grass of my house and later I played with my dogs. And now my head is hot because Iam trying to write in english some words abaut my day. See you later and thank you.
Hi! The feeling of sleeping more is unspeakable. We know the difference that almost two hours makes. Oh, so you used these 30 minutes doing lessons... Good. You did a lot of things today, huh?
"My head is hot" is it like "My head is going to explode?" (if it is, cool down, you did a good job)
Thanks for telling me your day.
I'm Pedro, i don't know what write but, i'm writing lol. Then, i love animals, like cat and dog. I'm watching Orange Is The New Black now and i'm love this tv show. My favorite sing is Lorde, 'cause she is very very talentous and gorgeous. My favorite song is "Tennis Court" and "Getaway Car" on this moment and it is. Bye :)
Hey, Pedro. So you're both, a cat/dog person (it means that you prefer cats and dogs than other pets). Are you watching this TV Show to practice? I am watching "How I met your mother" all over again, and I'm in love with that (again) . Oh, I know this singer Lorde... I like "Royals".
It was nice to know about you.
Hi folks, my name is eduardo, I am 35 yo, and I've spent all morning improving my french skills. Afternoon I've had lunch and listen some good music. Now I am going to study english and another bunch of things like calculus, algebra linear and other topics related to machine learning and computer science. It was nice to write here... until the nex time.
Hi Daniela, I started to study French last year. So far, I think that it's being easy because have many similarities with portuguese and english also. I think that read in French not wil be a problem to me in the future but when it comes to listen skills I noticed that is more difficult , they speak very fast. Up to now It has been a great experience. Nice talking to you, seeya
Thanks for sharing your experiences with me. I think French is one of the most beautiful language, but the only thing I know is "Je t'aime" (and I think I don't even know how to pronounce that, lol). In fact, I asked if it was a difficult language to learn because of the pronounce and the rate of speech. I didn't know that the French had similarities with Portuguese and English, it's good to know. Maybe, one day, I can study French through English... We don't know what the future holds.
Nice talking to you as well.
Hi people, my name is Erick and i'm 34 years old. Today I spend my day making some rapairs in my home, later I played soccer with my son, he is five years old and love to play with me. I take some minutes to me to rest a little and now I'm here practicing english to improve my vocabulary. Thanks a lot for the opportunity and a nice evening for everyone!
Hello, Erick, nice to meet you. So you spent your day working in your house. Five years old, so young and already a soccer player (haha)... Is he your only child?
You're welcome. It's been a really good experience for me reading and interacting with all these comments. Thank YOU.
Have a nice evening as well.
About five years ago, I was with my brother, going to the drive through of MC Donald's. There was two girls (from Wizard's course) delivering invites from their course. I was sitting at passager sit, and one of the girls came to me and said: "Hey, here's a course for you to learn!" (Very mean), and she threw at me one of the invites, like: "I'm sure you know nothing about english". Right after I've said: "I don't need this, I already know english, but thank you, I appreaciate!"
She was freezed, but I know she didn't understand a word that I had said. I mean, what happend that day bothered me, frustrated me, because she assumed that I did not know another language, maybe' cause I'm black. But I never give up learning english.
You nailed it, Jeffrey, when I read your answer for what this girl said I just thought "It serves you right, mean girl". It's really sad that you had to go through this situation (I'm sorry for this). I will never understand these mean people that judges without knowing someone for real. I really hope she learned something from this. (Am I being optimistic?)
Never give up, stay strong.
BTW, really good writing! Thanks for your comment.
Hello people!!! Good morning!
My name is Lucas, I'm twenty two year old, and this days I have the new that the duolingo club will finish. It maked me sad because I'm is without cellphone to pratice now but I liked to pratice in the clube. Is someone more sad with that?
it was always the sames question that the duo did asked, but i apreciate that, because it had average ways to aswer that.
However i'm glad because I still can pratice here!!
Hi, Lucas. Good morning. We both have the same age. Well, I'm a new member here so I have no idea how the clubs used to be... But yes, you can practice here!
If you allow me, there are some mistakes in your sentence... Year (here you need to use the plural, adding an "s" - years), this (here you need to use the plural again to match with the word days - these), maked (the past tense of this verb is made), I'm is (verb to be, it's I am), sames (no plural here so it's same), did asked (you just need one word indicating past, you can say only asked), apreciate (just a little mistake, the letter "p" is missing - appreciate). We learn from our mistakes, just keep going.
Hi, Tiago... Nice to meet you. I don't know this word "broker", help me, what do you do as a broker?
Are you serious that you're starting to learn English now? You did a really good job! Keep going!
Just a little mistake: You are "an Uber driver"
Thanks for you comment. See you.
I have plenty of stories to tell, however, I'm only here to say that you DanielaMota22 was the one who earned more lingots without telling any facts about your life. Congrants on your post. Posts like that one are very useful in order to help people who don't know how to express themselves in English not to be so shy when trying to use a new language. You rock girl.
Hi, SULIPINHA. How I mentioned in this post, it started because of you... What a nice way to use the lingots! And how I said in your post, I would share the lingots you gave me somehow. I want to say thank you for this idea... It has been a really good opportunity to practice and help people. I agree, it's really useful. In fact, I didn't know I could do all that I did here...
Thanks a million. And... Feel free to tell your stories here, I'd love to read them! (I told some facts about my life replying the comments)
I do not know what to say about my day. My days are always excellent days unless I am sick. Today is also a great day for me. Raining season now where I live and that's awesome! Hope y'all enjoy your day!
I'm having a pretty tough time. I really want to go to college in Spain but I'm not graduated yet so it's really hard to find scholarships (they are offered mostly for master's and Ph). Also, I just found out that a friend of mine doesn't really like me and that we have a toxic relationship. She's all the time trying to point out my errors in all the languages I speak (not respectfully but pretending she's just messing around) and telling me that I'm not able to learn them perfectly as she is. The worst part is that most of the mistakes she points out aren't even mistakes and she's the one who isn't figuring them out. I know I'm not perfect but nobody is (and that includes her)! We're all learning, mistakes are normal and part of the process. We need to deal healthily with them. I was ignoring it but it's becoming really bad and she's kinda suffocating me. It's sad 'cause I really like her and sometimes I think she doesn't even notice what she's doing. I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life while distracting myself with one of the things I most like in this world - languages!
Hi, Lari. I'm sorry for all these messy things happening in your life at the same time, it's just not easy to deal with them and I wish you the strenght to get through it. It's also not healthy having a friend that is always pointing your mistakes, because critcizing all the time is not helping you to improve... It only makes you feel bad. I won't tell you "don't listen to her" because I know what the people we love say hurt us the most and it's not easy to ignore them. But, have you ever tried talking to her about all that? Saying "Hey, I really like you but you're hurting me so bad with your behavior and I can't take it anymore".
BTW, what a really good writing you have! Keep going.
Hi Larrii, nice to meet you, permit what I introduce for you. My name is Robert, I am 48 years old, I have three daughters, I living on São Paulo, Brazil. If you permit me, bad persons and good persons exist all the places. Don't give importance and keep follow in front. See what good for your life and play out what is bad. All in the life can be good, just how you see the tricks, what your life present for you. Stay good. See you next.
Hello, my name is Raul. Today I wake up at 6 o´clock, a have a breakfast at 7 o´clock. I and my wife went to do shop. First we went to do shop in the supermarket. There we buy vegetables, fruits, meat and cereals. After that we went to have lunch in the sea food restaurant and after that we went at home. At 7 pm o´clock we have dinner and 10 pm o´clock, we went to sleep.
First of all... Happy birthday. How old are you?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you meant to say that your birthday was very good because your best friends came to your house and you guys had a really good time. But then, their mother arrived and they didn't want to leave, but they had to go back home.
We are here to learn. Thanks for your comment.
Don't be sorry! I don't think so. I think your English is a work in progress just like mine! So, you are thirteen years old. In English we don't "have an age" like in Portuguese, so you can say only "I am thirteen years old".
Please, don't stop trying. I know you can get there!
Haha, I don't think I deserve any Lingots, but I'll tell a little bit about myself and my experience.
I've been learning English since 2012, and I'm a little young, 13 years old to be more precise, and Duolingo really helped me in the beggining, and my life got so much better after learning English! Games, music, movies are so much better when you see the original language, and the material for school researchs are much better detailed in english!
I recommend that you, who's reading this, try harder, don't limit yourself to learning here and try to go and watch videos, play games, watch movies in English, it's a really cool experience and soon you'll notice it's not so hard!
I disagree. You do deserve the lingots. (in fact, you deserve more)
It was nice to know your story. You're really young and that's inspiring. I agree, there are a lot of benefits in knowing another language. The feeling of watching our favorite TV Show or videos in english without subtitles is unspeakable. By the way, you have such a good writing.
See you. Thanks a lot for your comment.
Hello everyone! How are you doing? So, I'm here after a long time... I using this app since 2013, but I never can't keep my ofensives for a long period, because I always forget it or I don't have time. I came back because I need to practicing and built a vocabulary. I planned for this year that I going improve my English and here I'm with my old friend Duo. The little things making the difference.
Hello guys! My name is Thiago, I'm thirty two years old and I'm writing some words here to improve my English. Well, I start to study English a few years ago. Initially was because my graduation requires it. Now, already graduated and working, I'm back to the books in order to get better results, especially in my job. I fell that I still have a long way to loose my fear of conversation, but I'm here for it. Thanks by opportunity. Please, correct me if I made a mistake(s).
Hi, Dani. Permit I introduce me. I am Robert, I living in São Paulo - Brazil. and nice to meet you. How are you? Today is sunday, and I am with my family, all in my family pratic other linguages in Duolingo. Today is my day off and I am study at moment. That´s all for moment. See you next bye!
Hello everybody! How are you guys? So, my name is Vinicius Motta, I'm twenty-two years old, my days are very, very, busy, I wake up at 4:50 a.m every day, to go to work, and when I arrived I will study, have days that I don't want to study because I stay very tired of my work, but even so I study.
Hello people ! I want to thank for this space to develop the vocabulary... I am 58 years old, I am married , | have three children and two grandchildren Currently I am work in oil plattaform as a flight controller. I like study English three times week in Duolingo in media, play chess and love to practice running. Thank you. By
Hi, Gilson. You don't need to thank me... This is happening because of all your comments, guys. So do you work as a flight controller? Thanks for teach me this job, I didn't know. So you like to study English three times a week on Duolingo. I have no idea how to play chess, haha, but I also love to practice running.
My name is antonio luz, im 29 years old, im student of physics and love mathematics, i pratice duolingo maybe 3 mounths, i need to pratice more all things on my life to advance and update my skills, i dont know much vocabulary but i try to improvise and i can understand better reading than listening, and if person say fast i have more dificult, i play rpg games on internet and i studyied english in school but never advanced my level, something here i can do lessons and i like this
Nice to meet you, Antonio. So you've been practicing on Duolingo for about three months, right? Me too! Here's a tip: Even if you think that you're better at reading, don't stop to improve the listening... The more you practice, the more you're used to listen people speaking English, more you can understand what they say. By the way, the speed that a person speaks it's called rate of speech, and yes, it's harder to understand but you'll see that it's not impossible. Yes, I studied English in my school too, we all did, but we usually only learn the To be verb, haha (or are you talking about an English school?)
Hi everyone! My name is Roosevelt and even the name seems unusual in here where I'm from. I'm brazilian and my conection with english has something about 10 years. But! With a real big B-U-T! I never had done any specific course beyond what we usually study in school. I learned a plenty with TV novels, series, movies and MUSIC! Oh! That last teached me a lot! So... How do you learned english?
Hi, Roosevelt, nice to meet you. Now I can say I know someone called Roosevelt, and I'm pretty sure it's a rare thing to say. BTW, I have a (maybe obvious) question: Is it because of the president?
Oh, well... Me neither. Guess we're self taught, haha.
Just a point: "How did you learn english?" and the answer is similar to yours. In the past I used to study using my cousin's CD from her english course (I learned a LOT), lots of songs, books, etc. I stopped studying for a long time, but I didn't stop watching movies, Tv shows and things like that (unfortunately I wasn't confident enough to let go the Portuguese subtitles). Last year... I decided to start watching TV Shows and movies with subtitles in English and I had no idea I could do it, but I did. Finally, in this year, I definitely abandoned the subtitles and WOW the feeling is awesome.
Your english is really good! Keep going. Thanks for sharing your experience.
How are you doing Dani? Can I call you this way? My english isn't good, so sorry my mistakes.
Well, congratulations for motivating people to comunicate in English, the best way to learn is practicing.
Yesterday was my day off, I work from Tuesday to Sunday at nights every week. I slept too much and watched a russian movie.
The most interesting and beautiful language on my point of view is Russian, but it's really hard, it has been a true challenge for me learning Russian, the Cyrillic alphabet took a time to get less uncomfortable, but it's still hard.
The good thing is the pronunciation, it isn't so weird as people imagine, I think it's even closest to Portuguese than English (well, at least for me the easiest part is the pronunciation), the problem is that some words are too big and all the language is stressed time instead of syllabic time as Brazilian Portuguese.
Few people know, but the Portuguese from Portugal is a stressed time language too, so the best way to get a good pronunciation in Russian is trying to imitate the accent from Portugal :p
But let's keep trying, never give up is the key.
здравствуй, доброе утро, хорошего дня, рад познакомиться, до свидания мой друг
(Hello, good morning, have a nice day, glad to meet you, goodbye my friend)
P.S.: Save your lingots for other people, I have a lot here xD I just want to practice my english, thanks for the opportunity and feel free to correct me, I'm here to improve my English
Hi, Thiago, I am doing fine and you? Yes, you can! (I prefer this way, BTW). Oh, thank you. I'm motivating myself and practicing a lot here too. You work a lot... All night long? What do you do? And, tell me, how does it feel sleeping a lot? I've just forgot it haha. (the end of the semester is coming)
Really, the pronunciation is the easiest part? I thought it was the hardest... It's good that you've just translated what you said in Russian because I had no idea and I was like: "Oh my God what is happening" LOL How can you read and write that? Seems really hard. How long have you been studying?
Really interesting... I like the Portugal accent, BTW.
What a good comment! Thanks for sharing your experience learning Russian. I had no idea of these things and I learned a lot with your comment. I think your efforts will pay off in the future, just keep going.
P.S: So you're rich, huh? The lingots are only an extra, the real prize is the learning experience. As you've just said the best way to learn is practicing. I say the same: Feel free to correct me. Just a point: "So sorry for my mistakes" and don't be sorry... Your English is great.
Glad to know you're fine, I'm too.
You're doing very well Dani, helping a lot of people while you improve your English skills at the same time. I'm prolix in Portuguese and unfortunately I tend to be in English as well ^^ So, let me know if I'm talking too much and being boring...
Well, nowadays I work as a delivery man (motoboy as we call it here in Brazil), I work part time at afternoon and after evening to night, so I have some hours between the 2 jobs. The restaurant I work at night is next to my home, it saves more minutes from my days because I get home fast. I worked in a bank before, but the economic crisis we're living here in Brazil last years changed my whole life, but nothing to complain about, some things get better, others worse and life goes on...
Well, best wishes on your semester exams, I remember when I was studying at university, it was hard to manage the time, but I know you will do well, because you look very clever. And don't worry, soon you'll enjoy again how good is sleeping on your days off without time to get up ^^
About the Russian pronunciation, I think any language is a bit personal, what is hard for me can be easy for you and vice versa. The Cyrillic alphabet looks complex but it's quite simple, I guess anyone whit some motivation can fully understand it and transliterate (don't misunderstand as translate) in a couple days, the first days it's very slow to transliterate to our alphabet and understand the right pronunciation, but it improves naturally and very quickly.
Beyond the difficulties and that each language have their particularities, I don't think it's super hard, no doubts it's different, but not so hard. My interest comes from long time ago, but I've begin to translate some isolated words this year, and after a friend indicated me Duolingo when I asked him an easy tool to improve my English, I decided to learn Russian while improving my English.
Duolingo is very good, I'm not disappointed, quite the opposite, the app overcome my expectations. But in order to get better results, I try to watch some videos, videoclips and movies in English without subtitles, I can understand pretty well, maybe 85%~more. I do the same with Russian videos, movies, etc. and even understanding less than 10% it's a good way to get familiar with the sonority and rhythm of the language, I think I'll reach the same level I reached in English only after 1,5 year or more...
If you don't trust me about the Portugal accent, try to listen this song imagining the singer is a drunk Portuguese speaking a non-sense language LOL For my ears the accent is very similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMGvuiZfS_o
I'm glad you enjoyed our conversation, feel free to share experiences with me, I really enjoy these moments when we can have a good chatting and learn with each other. If you find some time, try to learn some words in Russian just as a hobby, if you fell in love with the language as I did, you'll get some really good and relaxing time.
P.S.: I'm not so rich as a beginner in Duolingo, but I didn't use lingots before, I started typing in forums now. Your English is perfect to me, I can't notice any mistakes in your writing. You can correct me anytime you want, I appreciate when someone is available to teach and correct me.
Thanks for being so patient. See you soon.
After my monologue, I have some questions, if you don't want to answer, don't worry, I'm curious ^^
What course are you doing ? I began Economics, but unfortunately I couldn't finish because money xP
Do you work too? I remember when I was working and studying, hard times xD
What is your favorite English accent? Mine is the British one, so refined and polite ^^
Of course I want to answer. Oh, that's sad... But is it temporary? Are you planning to come back to college someday, or...? Well, I am finishing my degree in Psychology this year. I have a scholarship.
I don't work. And, being honest, I have no idea how people can do both... Looks like a horrible death, haha.
Definitely the British accent, no doubts. Sounds so good! BTW, I like this channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu0zfxgzG7yCQnVIaihYBGg
I think I won't back in a near future, unless something really unexpected happens to my finances (my financial life is a mess ^^)
I like Economics very much, even away from classes and books nowadays, I always try to keep myself well informed by news and internet.
I think Psychology is an extraordinary course, very interesting and it's kinda sad some professionals in this area nowadays aren't good listening and being attentive when the patient is talking. I did therapy years ago, the first psychologist didn't give too much atention, so I changed and the second was very good, patient and really interested on what I was trying to say, helped me a lot with the problems I had.
I think you will be a really good Psychologist, because you connect fast, easily and in a natural way with other people. Be confident, because you're in the right area, no doubts. Scholarships are hard to get, so I guessed right when I said you're clever and intelligent ^^
Yeah, it's terrible, absolutely no life working and studying at same time, every single minute you aren't working or studying you just want to sleep and forget everything LOL
I enjoyed the channel you recommended, I've watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzZNRHGxfqQ
So true!!! What I like the most is the way British people speak. We can hear all syllabes and the entire word how it should be spoken (sounds refined and polite), the Americans seems to be hungry, swallowing a lot of letters LOL
Thiago697236 So, maybe if you win the lottery. Just kidding, 'cause no doubts I would totally give up from my college if I become a millionaire LOL
It's sad to read that. I've been studying for almost 4 years and a half and I totally can't understand how some people has a degree not knowing the basic about being a therapist... Listening is one of our tools. It's good that you found a true one and had a positive experience.
That's such a nice feedback. Thanks a million. :) Glad to read this.
I like this video but I prefer the ones without Portuguese subtitles. This one is so good (and real), and it made me remember that you started your first comment here saying "Sorry for my mistakes", so I recommend this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2LCXdNJ6yA&t=1s and this one is funny https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFAXIurtuwc
HAHAHA so true! It makes sense in so many ways!
That's good. :) Thanks for your feedback, it means a lot. Haha, don't worry! I'm usually a quiet person, but when I have something to say and things in commom with someone, I can be really talkative (As you can see in my replies).
Oh, so you have two jobs. It made me remember the TV show "Everybody hates Chris" where his mother, Rochelle, is always saying "I don't need this, my man has two jobs" (please, ignore it). So you work delivering foods? In both jobs? Seems hard to me, having food in my hands and don't be able to eat it, haha. It's good that is close to your house, it makes life easier when we can get home quickly. Really? In a bank? You totally changed your career... Things are really complicated in this country, and always getting worse. Congrats for dealing with this big change so well.
Thank you so much... You're very kind. There are only three more exams... In fact, I am worried with the projects. But I know I can survive, I always do. Can't wait for my vacations!
You're right, it's personal. Yeah, motivation move us on doing unbelievable things and makes things easier. And you seem motivated, so keep up the good work. Transliterate... I've never seen this word but according to the context I can understand what it means. (I know it wasn't your point, but I also liked how that word sounds haha).
Oh, so you're learning Russian through English? I agree with you, Duolingo is very good. I'm also a new member here... I'm studying here on Duolingo for about three months. But yes, we need to find another ways to learn... Duolingo is only one of the tools we can use in our journey. I started to watch movies and TV shows without subtitles only in this year because of my lack of confidence. The experience is amazing even if you can't understand everything. It's good to keep in mind that you don't have to understand everything to understand what you're watching (does it make sense?). We have to celebrate the small victories.
I listened to the song and OH MY GOD YOU'RE SO RIGHT hahaha. It's really similar, that's all I have to say, I am impressed. BTW, I like this Portugal song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqK7Ys155j4
I also enjoy these moments, it has been an amazing experience. Ok, maybe one day! (and when I learn this word I will probably use it a lot and people will probably think I'm crazy)
So, welcome to the forum! Stay here, haha. Perfect English? I guess I'm really far from it, my English is a work in progress. But it was nice to read that 'cause I am working to make it better everyday... Thanks a million.
You don't need to thank me. Look at the size of my reply, I guess you're the patient here, hahaha.
I get home too tired yesterday, then I left to log in Duo today. You don't need to thank me, it has been really good talking with you. And thanks for the new word (talkative, I like how it sounds).
Yeah, but none of them are full time, so I can spend some hours studying or doing some hobby. "Everybody hates Chris" is such a classical, I remember watching after the school when I was teenager. I'm getting old, 30 years old, the time flies =(
Rochelle, Julius, all characters were very funny ^^ Good times LOL
At the beginning I was very tempted to eat everything, but doing this almost 2 years, we get used to it and I don't even remeber I'm carrying food LOL But when I'm at home, I eat too much, I think very few things in life can reach the pleasure of eatting pizza, pasta and hamburguers ^^
The job I had before was too far, I had to cross the entire city every day, and here isn't a small town (Belo Horizonte, do you know? I think it's near 2,5 million people). I spent too many time in traffic, it's really good to work near home.
I think we must try to enjoy the good things we have at the present, the past must be only a reminder of the mistakes we shouldn't repeat and the future a hope to get strength and goes on. A bunch of things I really miss from the past, I can't deny, but I try to focus in the good things of the present. For example, I'm less stressed and sleep better, I traded money for quality of life, maybe a really bad trade for some people, but well, I didn't have choice, the life traded for me, and start to cry in a corner won't help me, so I enjoy the better quality of life I have today and I try to use better my time.
The kind of work we do in banks is very problematic in so many ways, that's so complicated I think we could get a understable conversation about all only in Portuguese, I think the resume is: it's a work that destroys your inner self. Maybe someday in the future you'll remember what I'm saying to you now: As psychologist you'll meet a lot of patients that works in banks, I can assure you LOL
Thanks, the kindness is all yours, I'm really enjoying our conversations. And you'll certainly survive, don't worry, you're intelligent, you can reach anything if you put effort on it. My last vacations I went to the beach (Arraial do Cabo - RJ), here in Belo Horizonte we don't have beachs.
Motivation is the key to reach any goal. I like how the word transliterate sounds too LOL
Yeah, Duolingo has Russian only for English Speakers and in the internet is rare to find good material Portuguese to Russian and vice versa. But it's good, because I practice two languages at the same time. The only really bad thing is that some sentence constructions in Russian are more similar to Portuguese, so the mind almost blows switching the logical from English to Portuguese to understand Russian, it's strange, but funny at the same time LOL I'm at the basics and with a poor vocabulary, but some constructions are really weird, the genitive case in Russian is a mess almost without sense LOL
Try to imagine that in the genitive case (possessive case) you have to change the subject and the object, and still use an auxiliary particle. A little example: The man has a car would be something like: U (auxiliary particle) Mana (subject) has cara (object) (Russin hasn't any articles). I'm using English words to simplify, because the words are tottaly different.
We need to increase the exposure to the language to improve, internet and TV helps a lot with it. Don't be affraid of anything, you're very intelligent and best way to discover new things is trying. I agree with you, the experience is awesome, we need to celebrate all victories, small or big ones, it's what give us the sense to keep going. I understand you, through the context we can presume what we don't know, it's a very good way to learn new words, expressions and contexts, don't worry, because it makes sense.
Wow, really good lyrics, it's deep, I like to read or listen to things that somehow touch our souls and minds and bring us to reflection. Sometimes I feel myself an alien, because nowadays very few people like to talk about feelings or complex things like science, economics or theories of how the human being will be in the future, if the next generations will be so different from us or not, I have these thoughts, but no one to talk about (sorry for extrapolating the song you sent to me LOL it's a really good song and I think it's very interesting how the same language can be so different)
It would be amazing if you learn some Russian words in the future, I would have a partner to practice, and even better, a good chat partner .
Thanks for the welcome. I think your English is really good, don't lower your merits, and be sure, you're making it really good.
So let's agree, we are both patient LOL
But I can say for me, I don't need to be patient when taliking with such intelligent and interesting person like you. It's a pleasure for me.
I understand. I also got home really tired today. I accidentaly took a nap and I am pretty sure I've died in the process haha. Sometimes we just need to take our time. I say the same, it has been really good talking with you. What I like the most is that you answered every single word that I said, it’s really rare nowadays to find someone who does it. I also like how this word “talkative” sounds, haha.
I understand. So you have time to do things you like, that’s good. I think it’s good ‘cause most people with only one job don’t have time to live at all. That makes me kinda sad. Because, as you’ve just said, time is flying. When you live for work, you don’t have time to live.
No doubts. A classic. One of my favorites TV shows... It’s been a long time that I don’t watch television, it’s just not worth it anymore, but when I used to do it, this and “Me, my wife and kids” were my favorites.
I’m trying to understand, ‘cause I know we really get used to things, what sometimes turns special things into just normal ones. For me, it´s kinda awkward, all that I can think is “How can you forget you’re carrying food?”. LOL In the past I used to like more of these things “pasta, hamburguer and pizza”, nowadays I don’t miss it anymore. But I agree, the feeling of a good food is unspeakable.
Yes, I know BH (but I never visited)... I’m really far from there, ‘cause I live in Bahia. I can relate to what you said. I live in a big city – Salvador – and everything looks so far from my house and I am almost sure that I’ve spent some years of my life in traffic. We have many beaches here but I can’t wait to move from here anyway (after my graduation).
You made me remember a quote that I really like: “The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present.” Congrats for your point of view. We usually do the opposite: We focus only on the negative. Positive thoughts and attitudes are created in the same way as negative ones. When you become negative, you are usually filling your mind with self-defeating messages. Positive thoughts work in exactly the same manner, just in reverse, being able to build things instead of destroy them. I don’t think we need to try to reach "Nirvana", but it’s important that we can focus on good things in life too. And I can see it in what you said. It’s not like “Oh my God my life changed and now I don’t have money enough to do the things I like, and everything is a mess” but “In the past I could have money but I didn’t have the time and the quality of life that I have now”.
“A work who destroys your inner self” That was such a strong thing to say... I can’t even imagine how hard it was. I’m not sure I’ll work as a psychologist someday. I need to be honest... It’s not that easy to find this job, having money to create and keep your own business (‘cause I like Clinic Psychology only)... But I’m sure I did what I wanted to do, and that’s what matters. My patients by now are only journalists (such a coincidence). Hard job.
Oh, so that’s a double challenge. Two languages at the same time... Seems a really good experience. I understand. So it’s a triple challenge, haha. Learning Russian through English but relating to Portuguese at the same time. Oh boy. What? No article?
Again, you’re being really really kind. I’m not intelligent as you think. You look the intelligent here. I’m really impressed. (and it’s a relief to know that what I said made any sense, haha, ‘cause I was thinking when I've just wrote this “Wait, what?”)
Yes... Every single word of this lyrics touches me. It’s really deep. And the fact that in the vídeo appears homeless people makes everything more... I don't even know what word I should use here.
I can relate! Sometimes I also feel like an alien. Every talk nowadays seems so meaningless. Yes, it's very interesting how the same language can be so different, I like this accent so much. (“estrada” for example sounds so good).
Thank you so much for the support. And, WOW, what a great english (yes, I could say it over and over again). It's a pleasure for me too.
PS I don't know if the Duolingo will let you reply this comment because I think there's a reply limit, if not, please make another one, haha.
See you. (BTW, I think I won... Biggest comment ever)
I had a problem with my internet, it don’t back yet, I’m using the internet from my cellphone and I think hard typing on cellphones (I hit wrong letters every time LOL), when my internet back to the normal we retake our conversation. If you want to talk through e-mail or WhatsApp, I’ll leave my contacts here, don’t worry, I don’t think anyone will read all of our posts LOL, so, my email is firstname.lastname@example.org and my phone number 31 99421-5062. If you don’t like to talk in WhatsApp, no problem, we can talk only by email, the way you prefer and feel yourself comfortable, it’s the best way for me too. Sorry for don’t answering everything now, it would take 2 hours on the cellphone LOL See you soon
I understand. So, I will be waiting. You're right, I don't like to talk on Whatsapp, haha. I am not used to talk over email (in fact, I think I never did), but I may send you an email later (but I don't think we'll be able to talk unless your internet comes back because it'll only change the website, you would still need to type in your tiny cellphone keyboard, haha). So I hope your internet comes back soon.
Nice to meet you, Fernando. Good... When we're learning a new language is good to practice everyday. So you're studying Computer Engineering at the university... Thats good. An english course? Good luck and don't stop practicing everyday.
I've never watched this movie, but I see that everyone is talking about this movie lately, haha.
Hello everyone, I'm Ramon, and i have 23 years old, today i'm bring my brother to the hospital with my mother, and when i arrive in home, i begin to study hard in app of Duolingo and listening some songs. I reconigze the time and importance of learn English of lastest days, i live in Fortaleza state Ceará, a few months ago i studied for ENEM, and i stop because my change of a medium plans of life.
Hi, Ramon, nice to meet you. So you are 23 years old and you brought/took your brother to the hospital. Is your brother okay now? I agree with you... It's really important to learn English. Keep fighting.
One tip: When you're talking about the past, the verb needs to match with it... So it´s: "arrived" and "listened". Another tip if you allow me: I think that it could sound better if you say: "I started studying hard on Duolingo".
Good. I live in Salvador, Bahia. So you studied (well done, you used the past correctly here) for ENEM exam and you stopped... What did you mean with "my change of medium plans of life"?
Thanks for your comment. And remember: We learn from our mistakes.
i changed my plans of medium prompt because its crazy ideas, so i just put my feets on the ground, i need to take care of my brother (he is a child yet) and my plans involved to get a job for help here in home of money, sorry for my english, i'm beginner in english, some words i taked a look in google translate, but i'm so glad to talk with a "nordestina", for a time, i feed the crazy idea of give up of my course in university, for develop a operating system of computers, i'm not gived up totally, i just put in second plan this, and this harmed too much me, and now i pass very hard to get a job, and i know some friends are uneployed at the same situation to the past, so thats its, i decided study english for a lot of objectives, and one that is read some books of my area of academic knowlegde, and these books its only have in english
Maybe it's not crazy at all. I know it's important to have our feet on the ground sometimes and you had your reasons to give up on this but don't stop dreaming. And don't be sorry for your English, just keep fighting and learn more through the mistakes you make along the way, that what makes us learn. So you took a look at the google translate in some words... That's good. You could just translate every word there but you didn't. It means you are trying.
Yes, it's pretty hard to find "nordestinos" around here. At least I know only two. Are you in college? What course are you taking in college? So you're passing through a hard time to get a job... Get a job, nowadays, has been a difficult task. Good luck on that.
I understand, that's a good reason, it has a variety of materials in English.
I wish you the best. See you.
Hi ! Well, today I woke up at 8 am, I was soo sleepy because last night I went late to bed. My brother and I are watching Friends, the TV show, so funny! Usually I get up early, I have some turkeys and small chickens, and they start their day singing and woke up who is near.... but I love them.. And today is my day of rest, then Im just relaxing for now... And I really liked this idea of practic here. Sometime this forum is so boring... :/ hahah and it helps a lot !! :)
Hey, Vanessa, nice to meet you. Same here, haha, I went late to bed and I woke up sleepy after 8 a.m. (when I was supposed to wake up at 7 a.m, oops). Are you watching to practice? If you ask me I would say I'm team How I met your mother, haha... I am watching to practice, it's the first TV show I'm watching without subtitles, and it's been an amazing experience. Oh, do you live in a farm or something like this? Oh, so today is your day off... In my opinion, that's the best day of the week, haha.
Glad you liked, Vanessa. You have a good writing, BTW. Thanks for your comment.
PS: Congrats for your 670-days streak... That's huge!
Hi, Dani. It is so nice to talk to you again. My first dog was a Yorkshire, the name is Pulguinha and the second one is Thor, it is a Spitz Alemão. I preferred put the photo of my dogs in my profile. I think that is very nice. I love them and they are so cult. See you in the next chat.
HI, my name is Lucas I'm twenty two years old, I remember me a day that I was training English with a course colleague and sometimes he spoke: I want one thousand dollars in Portuguese, so I did a question about money for him and after anwser me, I did my first english joke and it was nice because he understood me. thanks for you attention
