Can someone help me understand why the sentence was referring to the person speaking, instead of referring to everyone else first, like in English? Thanks!

I think it’s just different in Navajo. In English you say “My grandmother and I”, in Navajo you say “I and my grandmother”. Hope that helps.

Navajo IS not English. The idea of everything is going to be like English needs to be eliminated. Also, it is ridiculous how many grammar and spelling errors there are in this Navajo course. You all wouldn't have had these issues had I been the one in charge. I am completely literate in both English and Navajo. Here there is yet another spelling error: *Shí dóó shimásání.
