Just lost a 957-day streak
I am a Duolingo Pro subscriber, in no small part because of the "automatic" streak repair. Imagine my dismay when I noticed today that my 940+ streak was apparently broken four days ago! Since I do Duolingo daily in French, Italian and Russian as part of my morning routine, I am wondering how this can have happened, since I was equipped with Streak Repair, which is supposed to "automatically apply if the streak is broken in the past 48 hours". The only thing I can think of is that I was in Canada for three days last week, though I was still doing the exercises every day.
Please check your "extended user profile": http://www.duolingo.com/users/jamesdm49
You need to check / for these variables:
- utc_offset (in the object "tracking_properties")

To me this sounds like your smartphone / mobile app had actively switched timezone (probably!) and maybe you are now on the wrong timezone.
Are you still using the mobile app or do you use now (only) your computer with the www.duolingo.com web portal?
Any news about your current timezone settings and what TZ was active on 2019-04-30 and 2019-05-02 (you may have to remember / guess)?
Thank you so much for your continued interest and help. I did go to my extended profile, but was unable to make sense of the extended lines of code. However, I am pretty sure that 1) I was on Eastern Standard Time on both dates 2) I missed doing Duolingo on May 2 because I was very busy that day, didn't do Duolingo first thing, as I usually do, didn't remember to do it later and, unfortunately, did not have a streak freeze in place.
So, it's my fault, after all, and now I know that the "monthly streak repair" is no insurance against not having a streak repair, as well. I will be more careful to check my streak status from now on.
Were you using a mobile device? If they drop the connection even for a moment, the servers frequently fail to register your work.
According to https://duome.eu/jamesdm49, you earned 60 XP on each of:
(no points 30 April)
(no points 2 May)
I've lost a couple of long streaks but the longest was only 720 days. That pales in comparison to yours. I imagine it's a big kick in the teeth :(
Not that it helps much now, but try to get in the habit of double-checking your streak freeze every day when you do your lessons. I've had mine used on me in the past when I didn't expect it.
Yes. I was on my iPhone, and the service was very weak. But why didn’t the streak repair kick in automatically, since break was less than 48 hours in both cases? Moreover, in circumstances such as these, involving travel, poor internet access , such long streaks and so many unused “lingots,” a paid subscriber should get more than a “that’s a tough break” response.
I was on a road trip, too, over the weekend. I managed to maintain my streak but did fall out of sapphire league back down into gold because many, many times there were delays in the connection which has been happening a lot lately. I would have gotten further up the board were it not for these delays at the times I was able to do Duo.
I feel bad for you; I know how it hurts and disappoints and discourages to work for so long to maintain and then lose it. I hope Duolingo will examine your streak and maybe restore it for you -- and examine how much down-time they had that caused me to miss out on accomplishing much and causing me to fall back a league.
Please keep us posted, James.
How can you say "ONLY 720 days?" My longest streak is just twenty days and I started two months ago!
I feel your pain because it happened to me. However, my streak did get restored, so maybe yours will if you explain to Duolingo.

It would make 99,99% much sense to look at your XP graph on www.duome.eu/USERNAME for yourself and post how many days are displayed as lost (with your own correct local timezone).
The Plus "streak repair" obviously was done on 2019-05-01 (either manually, but more likely automatically trigged in the background by your Plus subscription).
If you really had a "streak freeze" EQUIPPED on 2019-05-02 (0 XP) we can not answer to you (maybe admins do have different tools, if they find any time for log scanning).
We just can see that you bought one on 2019-05-06.
So either that one may have been used or you did not have one ACTIVE on 2019-05-02 when the server didn't receive 10XP....hard to tell.
All data is shown to me in my local GMT+2 (Germany) timezone....so you have to do this "interpreting step" for yourself with your correct timezone settings.
You also should be well aware what TZ you have exactly been on 2019-04-30 and 2019-05-02.

AFAIK there is no telephone support, no 1st level support.
We just know that Troubleshooting posts are regulary / randomly scanned by staff.
Submitting a ticket might help (usually there will be no answer to reported bugs): https://support.duolingo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
The other chance may be the "Plus support button" if you you can find it on the www.duolingo.com "Home/Learn" page and if it is still available....
When it was damaged I once had seen a posted e-mail address on the forums...but please do not ask me in what thread and how to find it again ;)
Thanks for the very informative reply. I am confused about the difference between "streak freeze" and "streak repair". In any case, I have already spent more time on this issue than it is worth to me. C'est la vie. I'm just going to soldier on with my new 5-day streak and file the experience away in my "lessons learned" folder.
I bet you felt gutted about losing your streak, but is it really that important,my advice get over it start over because you don't have a choice,me personally i don't care about steaks or worthless lingots i just want to learn and expand my vocab.
Hi Yes - I’ve had small losses (as have many others)nothing like yours though. For me it’s related to syncing after having to work off line. I have been in contact with Duo support. They indicated they could see there was an issue but couldn’t fix the fault. But they suggested they could see my actual streak total and that they could reinstate my ‘lost’ days. I’ve left it at the moment since I’m about to be working off line for two weeks due to remote travel and will ask them to check totals and review/amend after that.
So I’d post in support and see what they can do. There’s obviously a problem they are aware of. For me it happens when I sync from working off line regardless of time zones.
to me happened the same thing some time ago. I felt rather unhappy so I can understand you very well.
I then tried to get my streak back by contacting DL and was successful.
So perhaps you may also try to contact DL by means of the following link:
I marked 'bug report' (Type of issue).
In the meantime for me the streak is no longer so important. I mainly try to think about language learning ... although the streak is really not a bad matter of (extrinsic) motivation.
