Arabic Word of the Day 14#
*مساء الخير today we'll go through... umm... food? Nono actually we'll got through introducing ourselves, yeah, so here we go:
*إسمي - Spelt: - Letters: alif - seen - meem - yaa / sound: a - s - m - ee/y
*Transcription: "Ismee" - Now, you may have noticed that although the word begins with an 'alif', it makes the sound 'i' instead of the expected 'a' . This is because of the short vowel, which looks like small dash below the letter 'alif', called "kasra". It looks like this (ِ ) now if I can print it on the 'alif' it looks like... this > (إِ ) - YA! I can print! ;3 ... anyways so when there's a "kasra" below any letter, you must pronounce it as 'i'. So if we had the letter (س ) "s" with a "kasra" below it, we pronounce it as "si", get it? (if not, write below and I'll explain better).
*So what's the meaning of this word we've just wrote an essay about? It means "My name is" (kinda epic for a small word, no?)... So when we want to say our name, all we'll say is "Ismee (Sassy) " - that's it! You could also say "Ana ismee (Sassy)" but that's just extra - there's no need for the "ana" (I) and it also makes the conversation seem less 'natural'.
- Thanks for reading and sorry for the short post; I was going to go through how to say where you are from, but then realised I hadn't gone through some countries yet. That's going to be for the next post tomorrow. Any Qs or Pr (proof - reading, although not much to Pr anyway) please tell me. Have a nice day! ;p
Madurisa Sassy, thank you for posting this wonderful post and discussion. You actually made me want to do a french discussion just like yours. :3
My Arabic sentence for today: la 'uhib 'akl altaeam alearabii , likuniy 'uhibu 'akl 'asida (I don't really like to eat Arabic food, but I love to eat Asida)
Like again correct me if I am wrong and up voting like usually :P
P.S sorry for the late comment, I was on a field trip with my class. @___@
"Laa uh^ibu akl alt^a3aam al3arabee, lakin'nee uhibu akl al3as^eeda" - Great! Most of it is correct, I just like to use my transcription letters differently to yours. The main mistakes are "altaeam" - there's meant to be a (ع) so in transcription it would be with a "3", and "alearabii" - same here there's meant to be a "3" instead of the "ea" which you use here too. Also, instead of "likuniy" it should be "laakin'nee".
Other than that, Brilliant! Have you tried "3aseeda" before? I love it, but your taste buds must be messed - Arabic food is the best man! ;p Oh well, everyone has their own opinion... How was the field trip? - My primary school was trash so they couldn't afford to go on trips... Wait... Haha I had no school today in ya face!! Bank holiday ✌️ ;p
Lol, well we went to a laser science show! And Arabic food is sometimes good but not always, Because we don't really eat that much Arabic food so............I guess........................I don't have any tast buds problem....lol! And yes I have tried "3aseeda" it was good. :3
Why don't you try, be a risk-taker! It's really good, I thought it would be very bad but it turned out to be very good!
I would love to but there are no Arabic restaurants etc. near me. The closest one is 2 hours away.
That's sad:( Maybe make our OWN!! Jk
P.S I posted a thing called French word of the day! Check it out! (only if you want to)
I have honestly never heard of baklava. You guys are making Arabic food sound really good, I’m jealous! ;P
You are sooo missing out Andres!! Have you ever tried baklava Andres? it tends to be found in Asian shops and Turkish ones too (that is originally Arabic food btw!! - but they don't make it as good as we do of course ;p )
Thanks I'm replying late cus I had a lot of work to do ;p I got loaded up all at once +__+
They got new contributors for Arabic (a lot of them actually!) ;p maybe it'll be completed before 2023 ;D
