I'm fond of soviet movies like "Khanuma", "Hamlet" (with Innokenti Smoktunovsky), "The Adventures of a Titled Person" and "An old, old tale" (with Oleg Dal'), "17 moments of spring" and "War and Peace" (with Vyacheslav Tikhonov and Sergei Bondarchuk in the last one) and so on. There are deep dramas and cheerful comedies, sometimes combined in one movie. It was funny yet knowledgeable to watch "The Irony of Fate" and "The garage" with English subtitles. And of course I felt that it was kind of ((must)) for me to watch English movies. I've finished 'Jeeves and Wooster' recently and I've enjoyed it very much, even though I didn't get lots of words. Right now I'm watching "Agatha Christie's Poirot" with my mother, we help each other to understand some words and phrases we had heard. We've also watched "Adventure time", "Steven Universe", "Gravity falls" and "We bare bears" in English, yes, those are cartoons, but they are really nice, funny and sometimes unexpectedly deep imo. There were times when I had been watching anime, then I preferred to watch it with subtitles bacause I think that the atmosphere of a movie consists of many aspects including language, and also you can't avoid confusions when trying to translate wordplays.
Corrections are appreciated! Thank you.
i have watched all this cartoons too). "Steven Universe" has not russian voice acting (mainly)
It was funny yet knowledgeable to watch "The Irony of Fate" and "The garage" with English subtitles.
It was. :)
Corrections are appreciated! — very useful sentence for this forum, as for me. :)
May I'll take this one for my own set of useful sentences?
Thank you. Why do you think that Future Simple is not better way fo this case?
Because of "may". It's a modal verb. It does not have future form. Even in Russian. May I take ...? - Можно мне взять ...?
I'm a huge fan of Star Wars and the How To Train Your Dragon movies. I also really love Terrence Malick's newer films, "The Tree of Life," "Song to Song," and "To the Wonder." I especially love film music...Korngold, John Williams, and John Powell are my favorite film composers.
I love British movies based on Dickens novels. I also like plays from Globe Theatre. And I must say, I'm a fan of Mentalist!
Oh, I can really long to speak about my favorite films. But I do not know their titles in Engish))) All I can do is to use "translate.google" or "kinopoisk"))) But then It will be not interesting.
Can speak. No "to".
All I can do is to use "translate.google" or "kinopoisk"))) But then It will be not interesting.
It is very interesting to learn real titles of favorite movies.
If you like, we could make a compromise: give the names of the movies in Russian (or whatever is your native language), but write the rest in English. Example:
I like "Броненосец Потемкин".
Ok, it will be easier. If we speak about films so my favorite movies are "Список Шиндлера", "Если только", "Дневник памяти", "Спеши любить", and two serials "Игра престолов", "Это мы". All them are different but I adore each of them. Also I recently looked for the first time several Indian films. They are very unusual for russian viewer but those films are filled with deep meaning, if it is interesting for you then watch "Три идиота", "Пи Кей". And a few words about cartoons. I am a big girl but I like cartoons very much!))) "Могила Светлячков"; "Головоломка"; "Ходячий замок", "Шепот сердца", "Унесенные призраками", "Рыбка Поньо на утесе" (Yes, I like Hayao Miyazaki); "Девочка, покорившая время"; "Город героев"; "Кунг-фу Панда"... STOP ME!)))))
"Дневник Памяти" I like this one very much too! I watched this movie several times!
Noah — my favorite character!
I'll watch this movie with English subtitles with great pleasure once again!
PS Aaaa, I can't write some sentences without Google Translate, yet!
I like this one very much too! I watched this movie several times!
Now you have to read it! 8)
I mean the novel "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks.
I agree that translating titles can sometimes be difficult. For instance, I mentioned earlier that one of my favorite films is "To the Wonder." I have no idea how to translate that into Russian or whether it's even possible to translate it. It's a really ambiguous title...it's not a phrase or expression in English, but a native speaker can sort of feel what it means. I know that the official translation of it is "К чуду" but that doesn't seem to capture the full meaning of the title, at least in my opinion.
I like movies, but the cartoon is my main addiction.
I wait every part of "Hazbin Hotel" or "Infinity Train". I mean unusual storylines like in "Steven Universe" or in japanese anime (my favorite is "Death Parade"), beautiful drawing like in "Miraculous Ladybug". I watch an adult animation("Rick and Morty" or old "Futurama","Persepolis", "Technotise - Edit i ja", etc...).
I also like creepy animation. Do you know "Poochee and Pansy" or cartoons of Jakov Burov? He made a music video to IC3PEAK - Fairytale.
i like films, but the series i like more. "Black Mirror", "American Horror Story", "FlashForward"- it's all trillers
THIS TOPIC IS NOT ENOUGH TO WRITE ALL
Oh, Jakov Burov is cool. Have you ever heard about Vegmao, svalka, dnopasta, Michael MK, winpasta? I find their art really entertaining.
i like svalka and i heard about vegmao. But i prefer somethig with big semantic load or easter eggs like mr. Freeman, but more creepy
Salad Fingers maybe, i love arthaus. or ARG like "Pochee and Pansy" even if it ts old
My favorite movie is "Tron: Legacy" because of Joseph Kosinski and Daft Punk! :D Of course, it is only one of many others.
I even don't know how to start.Well,I would like to tell the community something about my movie/film preferences.Firstly,I find all action and adventure films too active and, suddenly, even a bit boring.Secondly,I am also not fond of DC and Marvel movies about superheroes. So,what you might think I prefer:fantasy, drama, sitcoms or cartoons?!All these guesses are incorrect. Frankly speaking,I'd like to ask you for a help. The only film which I had seen and found awesome was the film "Arrival".I'm completely unable to understand what to do-I find all other films quite silly. What will you recommend me?I'm wating for your advice.
Then you will be very interested in reading the source - 'Story of Your Life' written by Ted Chiang. Becauce the movie is totally different.
Thanks for your advice! I'll try to find it in my local library or in a bookshop. However, I'd be grateful if someone could advise me any other story (introduced in a film or in a book) with a deep meaning or with a unordinary plot and idea in it.
What's your level of english? It is difficult to me to read adult literatury yet. :( Even Potter demanded dictionary.
Did you try to read Potter? Today i searched this book in english but not found. Only paid books in stores. Where can I download it?
My advice is:
Try to watch some movies based on Shakespeare. I recommend plays from Globe Theatre (like "Much ado about nothing") or movies of Royal Shakespeare Company (like "King Lear").
Try to watch some British movies about the Victorian period. I love watching movies based on Dickens novels, like "Great Expectations" (2011), "Bleak House" (1985), "Little Dorrit" (2008) and "Little Dorrit" (1987). Hope that helps you.
I understand completely Dickens movies, because I know well the books, on which this movies are based.
I don't always understand Shakespeare, but still, with subtitles, I understand enough.
Of course it is simplier to watch or read movies or books if you know a plot. But it's not enough for me. I want to understand details, emotions, jokes and actors performance.
Shakespeare is so hard, even for us native speakers. I will say that a good performance of one of his plays is often clearer for us to understand than just reading the words because good actors make his meaning felt even when we don't necessarily understand every old word.
I don't watch movies twice usually. I like comedies, because in life have enough difficulty and i want rest. I like "Babysitting". "Без тормозов". I will try watch it in english. Also i like all movie wich actor Dany Boon espesially "Supercondriaque". If there are mistakes, please correct.
"... because in live I have enough difficulties and I want to rest / some rest."
"...I will try to watch..." (To do something)
...I like all movies with...
PS. Do you like Chaplin?
Thank you. What a stupid mistakes. I don't know if i like Chaplin. I respect him as an actor, but i didn't watch the movies with his participation.
You like french comedies. I suppose that is more reasonable to watch english comedies in inglish. Simon Pegg for instance.
But there is no modern english there. :(
I like movie " Семь лет в Тибете ". I like actor Брэд Пит. I like historical films. This film is also about the Tibetan culture.
I live in the city of Sumy. (Ukraine). In our city there is a theater. Our theater is among the five best theaters in Ukraine. In my opinion the best performances of our theater are " Лісова пісня " , " Сірано Де Бержерак" , " Включені"
Hi! I really fond of movies. I have too many favourite ones, but I want to talk about "Limitless". That was an impressive story. A man whose life was worth nothing has got a chance to change his life. It wasn't too easy, it was a hard and difficult way. On this way the man made mistakes, right things, and finally he was able to change his life and he became a respectable person. He created his personality by his own.
And last thing I want to say I am a huge fan of Game of Thrones.
It wasn't too easy, it was a hard and difficult way.
I'd like to get those drugs. :)
"Contact", "Terminator", "Terminator 2: Judgement Day", "Amelie from Montmartre" are my favorite movies!
"The Heat" with Robert Deniro and Al Pacino, "No Country For Old Man" with Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones I like those moves too.
If we're talking about soviet movies, than I'll say than "За двумя зайцами" my favorite movie!
There are "Favorite Actors" section in Kinopoisk site. I added Leonardo Dicaprio, Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender at this one.
Are there users, who like the same movies or actors?
PS I know, my English so weak yet. So that's why corrections are appreciated! :)
"Terminator 2: Judgement Day", "Amelie from Montmartre"
It's a funny cocktail. Even though I like them too. But don't love.
If we're talking about soviet movies, than I'll say than "За двумя зайцами" my favorite movie!
If we talk about soviet movies, I['ll] say [that] "За двома зайцями (because this movie is in ukrainian 8)" is my favorite movie! (but I'm not sure)
Great Magneto! :D
Chasing Two Hares, also known as A Kiev Comedy, is a 1961 Soviet comedy film directed by Viktor Ivanov based on the eponymous play by Mykhailo Starytsky.

«За двумя зайцами» (по мотивам комедии «На Кожумяках» И. С. Нечуй-Левицкого). Русский перевод осуществил А.Н.Островский.
Magneto! I like this character too. And Fassbender the best for this role, in my opinion.
And what about Gandalf? :) I liked David from "Prometheus", mr. Rochester and Frank.
Yeah! "Prometheus" is good. But not so good like "Alien" 1979 or "Aliens" 1986.
Вut what about David, I will not argue with you. Devid is very interesting and not simple character. He likes ask human difficult questions about God or Creations... Fassbender is great on this role...
I also like Fassbander as a Lt. Archie Hicox on Inglourious Basterds by Quentin Tarantino.
Because he is real German. :)
I really like "Aliens".
He likes to ask humans... or He likes asking... I'm not sure about the second one.
Oh, you reminded me about Leonardo DiCaprio, he is one of the best actors in my opinion. I like "Остров проклятых", "Волк с Уолл-стрит" and other films in which he played. And also I remembered Will Smith and his "Семь жизней", "В погоне за счастьем" and other. These two actors are geniuses! How is it possible to be so talented?!?!?
Well, every talented actor has to practice a lot, but not every actor who practices a lot will be a talented / good actor...
Of course, practice)) My question was not a question, it was such an expression of delight ))
Hello everyone! To be fair, I prefer reading plays rather than watching. My favorites are - 'The Merchant of Venice', 'Hamlet' by Shakespeare, and "Two for the Seesaw" by William Gibson. Although I really enjoyed watching the " Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead", because it seemed to give some sort of new life to the main characters. As for the movies, I guess the 'Great Beauty' by Paolo Sorrentino and 'The Gambler' by Rupert Wyatt inspired me the most for the time being.
R & G are really good! Gary Oldman and Tim Roth are amazing! Maybe sometimes I'll read it.
