How does the practice function work - how does Duo decide what you should practice?

I've got words in my word list that Duo say I've not used for a year or more and I need to practice. I periodically press the practice button, but it never seems to pick any of the words from the really old list.

I'm just curious how this is supposed to work. I admit that most of the time I'm doing new lessons or tests, especially since the French tree just reset, but even so I do press practice from time to time and it never seems to pick old words to refresh?

I've noticed this as well. I assume it's a problem linking words learned in past Duolingo 'versions' to the current software. Many of the words marked as 'overdue' in my words list come up regularly in lessons so it's a problem with the word list not with the system refusing to review those words.

I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to say that I have the same problem with Duo. I've started using TinyCards each day for this reason, but it seems to have it's own issues, at least on Android.

Agreed, TinyCards may not be perfect, but it does seem to age stuff for you, forcing you to review things more...
