Why is some of the audio missing in my lessons?
Hi, I am learning Chinese at the moment and the audio when I moused over the individual characters is missing, and also from when I select the bubbled words to create phrases in Chinese.
This has been such a crucial part of my learning. I have moused over the same word over and over again, spent many, many minutes, in fact, most of my time, mousing over individual characters and letting them be cemented into my learning this way. Plus it has allowed me to slow down the audio. And then, having the audio when I select the words in the bubble to create the translation sentences in Chinese has also helped cement my learning crucially. I have learned enough that I can get by without where I am currently in Chinese, not sure as I advance, but I am planning on doing several other languages, and I don't think I really can the way I am without finding something new that is not Duolingo, as Duolingo will be too advanced for me without this by the character, or by the word audio. I'll have to find something else to start on, and I am not really sure what, or that Duolingo will be what I will want to do once my learning has advanced to where I can get by without the by the character and by the word audio.
I'm just kind of floored! And really, really unsure where to turn!
Thanks for posting this! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this oddity!
I've run a few tests on other language trees to see if the problem is just related to the Chinese tree! After the tests, it seems to me that this is a problem throughout the entire site rather than just on the Chinese tree!
I've reported this bug to Duolingo staff and I've linked this forum post in the bug report I've submitted! We can only hope that this is a temporary thing and that the Duolingo staff work to fix it quickly!
Should Duolingo not fix this problem and you find yourself in need of a new language-learning platform, you could always go to memrise.com! That site is pretty popular and pretty good for beginners although it's user interface and design is not as easy-going as Duolingo's.
I hope they will fix it soon... it was important to me too. The same problem is in the japanese course too, but in chinese really hurts. :(
The hover over audio I could use to repeat the word, as many times as I like, sort out what I was hearing. It was like a much better slow button. It slowed down Chinese when it was too fast, and allowed me to repeat the characters I needed more work on. The hover audio feature was my #1 most used learning feature. It's brought me to where I am in Chinese. Also, the reinforcement of the characters in the bubbles while building sentences. So extremely crucial!
I have noticed some of the lessons where I build a Chinese translation of an English sentence from word and phrase tiles are missing some audio. "Phrases 2" has something besides "Qing wen" for "excuse me" and I've never heard the audio for those characters. ☹️
I have the same problem as well and I am angry with this change. Duolingo lately has gotten worse and worse with the removal of useful features and unnecessary changes that worsen the learning and user experience for all of us.
