Why has DuoLingo Chinese stopped pronouncing the characters when I select them?

This happens in exercises where they provide the sentence in English and I have to select the Chinese characters to construct the sentence. It used to be that when I click on the character, DuoLingo would also play the sound the character makes. Now it is silent! What gives? Cheers!

It's not just the Chinese course, all courses are affected. The audio pronunciation no longer plays when you hover or click a word in a language you are learning in the desktop/mobile. This is a very poor decision that worsens the learning experience and makes learning a language more difficult.

Yep, it is very annoying. Especially with Hanzi and Kanji characters, because if you don't know how to read or say it, there really isn't a way to see how it is pronounced without spending time googling it. At least with Spanish, Swedish, etc... you can read it since it's in the Latin alphabet. Not with Hanzi or Kanji unless you know the character. It makes learning much more difficult.

Korean too as it has its own alphabet.

For Hanzi in Mandarin Chinese lessons the word descriptions don't show the pinyin when you hover or click a word in sentences and you don't have a tool to help you pronounce it properly.

I hope the missing audio on the whole site is just a "temporary" bug and not a permanent, unnecessary, terrible change based on poor decision making.

Duolingo team, please reactivate the sounds on each selected word. All the courses have been affected and it difficults to learn the words. I hope your answer. Thank you.

I agree. This feature was essential for effective progress. No reason was to delete this feature. We need it back.

I noticed that too, hopefully it's just a bug since pronunciation is especially important in Chinese.

I think we need to submit directly to "help center - Submit Bug Report".

I really loved the hover feature on Chinese, it really helped me get closer to the correct pronunciation. Learning Chinese is going to be a lot more difficult without that feature. :(

I posted this issue in the general Duolingo thread (https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/32144079) and it affects several languages.

I tried the mobile app today and it still works there. So I suppose that it is only a temporary bug. You might switch to the mobile app for now.
