So, this achivement will probably pale in comparison to other Duolingo users out there, with their ongoing streaks reaching well over a thousand days, but this is something I'm really proud of. In all honesty, dedicating a minimum of 5 minutes a day to learning a bit of a language isn't the most demanding thing. Instead, it is the committment of not giving up which is the real challenge to many learners.
I'd like to take this as an opportunity to thank the Duolingo team for making this amazing, free resource for langugage learners around the world, and to the mods and community for providing answers, helpful tips and invaluable advice in discussion sections when I (like many others) stumble across a difficult lesson to grasp. Your help and support is truly someting I am very grateful for.
This seems a rather apt time to reach this goal because I have my GCSE French Reading and Listening Exam tomorrow and Duolingo has helped me with lots of vocab, sentence structures and idioms. Again, thank you, everyone.
Edit: Thank you everyone for your kind comments (and lingots!) and good luck with all your language-learning journeys.
Congratulations and Comhghairdeas! I'm going to be hitting the magic number later this week as well, and it still boggles my mind that the time has flown by so fast. My only (tiny) frustration is that it looks like I'm going to miss hitting my 1-year streak at the same time as my Golden Owl in Irish by only a matter of days. ^_^
Well, although I've been using Duolingo for a year I technically started properly learning French about three years go in school. I think Duolingo is a supplementary resource and you should use other tools as well. My French is nowhere near fluent and there are many gaps, but I can understand written and spoken French at a fairly basic standard, but only if you speak slowly!
Wow that is dedication in its purest form! I also happen to be taking French exams, this year for GCSE and I know how hard it is to do the streak everyday, the frustration of having to do something so often. I guess you are having your writing exam on Friday, if so good luck! Am I the only one who struggled a lot with the French listening, I feel like I was guessing too much.
I hope you do well on your exam! (I know you you are going to do great!) If you feel comfortable with it, make sure you tell me how you did. (If you don't want to that's fine ;) )
Great job on French! My longest streak is seven days! ;) That is amazing that you kept a year long streak! You motivate me to get a longer streak! Have a great day and I hope you do wonderful on your exam!
