Can we no longer report problems in French anymore
I was trying to Test out of "Shopping" in French since the restructure wiped my progress and the Question I was given at a point was
Write “shoes” in French
I filled in "Des chaussures"
...but I was marked incorrect with the following reason:
You used the plural "Chaussures" here, instead of the singular "chaussure". une chaussure
The question was specifically asking for the plural but wanting the singular answer. These things happen so I tried to report this, but the only option I get is a checkbox by a statement that says "The pictures do not match the given word." The picture is fine and matches the question (a pair of shoes (plural)).
Is there no longer a way to correct issues anymore in French since the restructuring?
I also miss more reporting options for my three Portuguese courses.
Why can't staff simply turn off picture exercises until these problems are fixed?
You can try to directly report here (choosing e.g "Other"): https://support.duolingo.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Do you have a screen shot? If you were asked to write "shoes" in French, it would be "chaussures" (no "des"). I often am marked wrong and the reason given does not exactly match the real reason my answer is wrong. About 99% of the time, when I look very, very closely and try different answers, I realize what they want and where I was wrong.
If there is no discussion for the question you may be able to search it anyway but if you are sure you are not just misunderstanding it you can report it as a bug, I guess.
Just write down the answer they are accepting and pump it in next time you see the question again.
The picture questions are just about the worst in the whole course.
Sometimes it does what you are reporting, asking for plural/singular and expecting the other!
Sometimes it asks for something without an article and then expects it. Sometimes it asks something with an article and then marks you wrong for adding it.
And so on.
Also, there is no way to report it unless you file a bug report.
With thousands of exercises to do, its not really worth the effort to do that, just pump in the wrong (accepted) answer and move on!
When being asked to translate a single word which is illustrated by a picture, don't include the article if it doesn't ask for one. Just translate the word.
Your mistake was including the article "des", which wasn't even asked for. If an article is needed, use the definite article (les) instead of indefinite (des). The error Duolingo typically makes is that it gives you the wrong reason for rejecting your answer. I don't think it's accurate to blame this rejection totally on the Duolingo program, when you did in fact give an incorrect response.
In each of the exercises where one has to choose the right word from 3 pictures --- DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW ??? I can see something is written UNDER the 3 pictures but as I don't know it's just a guessing game as to which is the correct picture to choose --- MAKES NO SENSE --- Marie Therese
