I hope Duolingo is still keeping XPs
I love XP. It’s easy to track. It’s not arbitrary. It gives levels a reason to exist. Crown levels isn’t a game, it’s a badge system. XP levels feel fun! The new updates makes me worry there will be no XPs.
Actually crowns are a much better indicator of how much you have learnt than XP. But both have their place.
I’m not saying to get rid of crowns. Both certainly have their benefits. It’s easier to set goals in terms of XPs because not every course has the same number of crowns. The Spanish course currently has close to 600 crowns total but the Swedish course only has a little over 300. But I have also done a lot more Spanish on Duolingo than any other language, despite having my owl fly away for the 4th time. Fair to say that crowns aren’t always accurate, so aren’t XP.

Which would suggest to me the Swedish course doesn't take you as far as the Spanish course does. And as Spanish and French are the only courses that go as far as A2 that is no surprise.
Is Swedish less complex a language than Spanish? That's not me saying it is, it's a question, and if it is true, it wouldn't be a criticism. The thing is whether there is a need for some languages to have far more crowns than others. Hmm.
Yes, except the end of the best DL tree is only the end of beginner level learning. And all trees could include the minimum vocab even if the grammar is simpler. So, the "simplicity" of a language would not make a shorter tree - just the lack of enough time to flesh the tree out. That said, there is nothing I have heard that would make Swedish that much simpler - other than being more closely related to English.
I like the idea for icons on the navigation bar but I don’t like the fact that the language levels won’t be in order of progress in some parts of the site (if you have more than 1 course). Last part makes me worry for XPs.
I liked the XPs. I was struggling to get the 15 level in French. Dissapointed they are not longer visible
Me, too. I don't really notice crowns at the moment, just what I can do in the language and the number of the level and how much xp to the next. Funnily enough, I find the xp helpful in getting me not just to plough on mindlessly through the tree, but to go back and do things again.
